The National Orginazation For [Restricting] Marriage

Rate: 1 Flag

I was watching the 11 o'clock News in my home state of NJ (New York Media Market) and on comes an ad for the National Orginazation For Marriage (Yes the orginization the world famous Ms. California is Spkeswomen for). I am surprised two things 1.) by the airing of this ad in such a liberal media market and 2.) by the total lack of a real reason for restrict marriage. In this ad they state that allowing Gay Marriage or (oppisite Marriage as it is known by some) They claim in their ad that Gay Marriage would cause "widespread legal conflicts for: small businesses, religious groups, and individuals." Yes that is their argument. This reminds me of another civil rights movement... The one in the 1950's ,60's, and 70's, having to do with equality among races.  Restrict Marriage so that it is between a man and a women is an issue of civil rights and you know what that means... it means that marriage is and should be recognized as something all people are entitled to.  If this argument was used during the civil rights movement it would have been scoffed at and never heard from again. I mean honestly is this a good excuse. We can't integrate schools because it will cause some problems and be really hard to do. I mean come on that argument which is used is total and complete bull$#!* There is no question that this is a simple matter of civil rights. The 14th Smendmeant of the Constitution states that all are to be afforded equal protection under the law. I.E. all people are equal and therefore recive equal treatment under the law. Right now our society is denying gay people their rights simply because they are gay. Why. Are we scared of Gay people. Are we scared they will "recruit" our children, obviously that doesnt happen... as Harvey Milk said... if kids emulated their teachers there would be a hell of a lot more nuns around.

Yes, keeping gay people from marrying - and doing it from a moral "high ground" - is confounding and plain wrong. After all, I am an atheist, and the religious in society don't seem to mind if I marry at all. You would think my marrying would hurt the sanctity-of-marriage concept of marriage more than two people who share gender!
