The United States is a representative Democracy. This means we vote for people to make laws and the like for us. Represent us. We are lucky to be this way given our horrible use of true democracy via ballot initiatives and the like. Illustrated especially by the American peoples lack of following their own constitution. We have in 31 states at my last count denied homosexuals the right to marry who they choose, based on something they did not choose. It is equivalent to denying Blacks the Right to marry because they are black. There is no difference there is no debating that. Opponents will bring up lies, and misrepresentations, they will use petty excuses and spew their bigoted hate. Why, I do not know. They claim homosexuality will taught in schools, which is not true. They say it will cheapen their marriage. This may just be me but I feel our 50% divorce rate does marriage more damage then gays getting married, but I digress. They say my religion is against this, and I will tell you the first amendment means that your religion does not matter. You can practice as you choose and hold your own opinions but you cannot force them on others because that is inherently undemocratic. The Fact is we are required to by law to make all people equal and as a Nation we have utterly failed. The one problem with democracy is that it allows the Majority to take away the rights of the Minority.
