HELPFUL SUGGESTION: if you like what you've read (and even if you didn't), come back in a day or two. It'll be better. In fact, if you hated it, you must come back and read it again because it will definitely be better. *************************** "I find that I am so excited I can barely sit still or hold a thought in my head. Patience has it’s virtues

Rate: 11 Flag

a shaft of light2

Slowly she slides her big toe across the floor and stops.   She knows the light will meet her in that exact spot.  The floor is cool and slippery under her bare skin.   She closes her eyes and waits for the surprise of sun.   It is no surprise.

I’ll have to do something about the dining room floor, she thinks.  She has spent weeks sanding and varnishing the oak in the livingroom.  It is her mission, these floors.  Her last mission was the walls, but now they are done.  A pleasant green in the bedroom, sunny yellow in the kitchen to add dimension as the television has instructed and in the livingroom, a neutral tan.  The spring and summer have come and gone and the walls are done and now it is time for the floors.

Soon I will be done too, she thinks.

well, I'm all screwed up timewise. because I was up all night weds and didn't get to sleep until 7AM on thursday morning, my entire sleep cycle is kablooey. last night I konked out at 9 and I was up at 3. but this is odd. I wake up and aftera couple of minutes, I have poetry in my head.

I'm reading raymond carver, in case you're wondering.

ps. I wanted to use every single generic tag for this post.

cause I can.

bump.
An intimate snapshot. Fine crafting of the word image.
thank you bob,

I've gone carverite.
why is my ad a hungry urchin?

if this offends you, you should send money to the salvation army immediately.
Sanding floors is very hard work. But once you get them stained and finished they are really beautiful. Good Luck!
R~~
All home improvement has an element of art in it, as of course does writing. So much is subjective; the weight of your hand pushing on the sand paper, the wrist movement in feathering the belt sander just so, the number of strokes with the varnish brush until the tone is just what your hoping for.

"She closes her eyes and waits for the surprise of sun."

And the right combination of words to illicit the desired emotional response. Lovely.
Sorry, ELICIT is what I meant to say. God forbid you write outlaw poetry!
oh but I like illicit. it's dangerous. and I am a danger rangerette!
scanner, don't I know it.

I do the interior stuff, short of electrical and plumping. I've already done the floors in this house...systematically by hand. I'm waiting to work on ...The Dining Room! I tend to do this stuff when I get winter "house bound" bored, so I'm not ready to get into the house fixit thing at this point. But they're not going anywhere so I'll get to them.
You know of Danger Rangerette?
but of course. I am in the know in regards to all cultural iconic dames.
Wonderfully composed.

This is a rich, rich vignette . . . you danger rangerette!
This was very peaceful to read for some reason, thanks
mical,
thank you. yours is high praise to me.

owl,
i'm pleased you liked.
(I'm trouble for short)

LL2,
what I am beginning to find is that I enjoy writing dark stuff with a benign feel. I'm glad you found some enjoyment in it.
I find these an odd choice of words that work quite well Ms Rangerette.
I can almost feel the floor under my toes.
Good effective stuff my dear.
Happy Christmas, nofrills. Love the floor and the avatar!
Mission,
I tried to keep it very low key while adding a touch of the devil. I do like that carver thing, the ordinary, extraordinary violent madness that seeps into our lives. Thank you for your kind words.

Professor,
I'm glad you liked it.

Zuma,
The floor and avatar love you right back. Christmas Monkey says, "HAIL!".
This is the best fiction-open call- raymond carver meets the animals-belief/religion-books-business-comedy-design-environment-family-fashion-feminism-food/drink-gay/lesbian-gossip-health-movies-music-news-christmas post EVER!
