I'm Trying Not to Shake It

Rate: 18 Flag
etchasketch

My middle son is an amazing artist. When I told him I'd like him to do a drawing for me, for Christmas, I thought he'd take out the charcoals and sketch pad. Instead, he doodled around with an Etch a Sketch and in about ten minutes handed me this rendering of himself and his sibs.
I just thought I'd share the message in the cartoon balloon with all of you: Merry Christmas!

Anybody who has ever owned an Etch-a-Sketch is blown away by this picture. I've owned several and the most talented thing I've ever done with one is create a swear word, show it to my 8 year old sister and then shake furiously as she ran to tell Mom
Amazing to say the least! I could never even write my name with one of those things.

Very cool, and thanks for sharing.
cool picture, cool kid.
Wow! Is that ever talented! I can't even manage a straight line with one of those things. Merry Christmas too you, too!
A Picasso in the making! So glad you're nurturing this talent. The reason my brother James is a professional dramaturg and I'm not is because he was reared by my parents and allowed to find his own way. I was reared by teacher grandmother and when one of my teachers told her with good intentions that I wanted to produce plays when I grew up Grandma hit the ceiling and told me in no uncertain terms that I was never mention my dream again. So, despite trying to rebel against family tradition, I ended being a teacher (I retired from that job in 1983).

Wish my grandmother had been like you because I'd be on Broadway or at least my plays would.
angus - That's the beauty of the etch a sketch - you can shake away the evidence.

wakingupslowly - I can't write my name, or anything else, either.

Joan - yeah, he's pretty cool.

Michael - you and me both - I couldn't even picture the lines involved to draw each figure, let alone do them on an etch a sketch.
Merry Christmas to you, too!

FrogTown Diva - Interesting to think about where we'd each be with parents like yours. I have to admit, my intentions were selfish as well, as I really wanted him to draw something for me!
He could even draw the faces, he really is skillful!
Merry Christmas and kisses,
Marcela
This is great, and I love that title. I saw it in the feed and I was imagining all sorts of things, none of them as great as this gift.
Merry Christmas!
That boy has talent! Great title, too.
Holy Crap! That is amazing and then some! What a skill and now I get the don't shake it thingy...
Merry Christmas!
Jesus, it has perspective! Holy crap, that's awesome.
An artist indeed. Wow!
This is very impressive. Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas!
I saw a guy on some show one time who was amazing on one of these things. This is the second one I've seen that is fantastic!

Wow, he's an amazing talent. I am just blown away. Merry Christmas to you and the whole family! Oh, and very funny title (hee hee).
Thanks for coming by and checking it out, everybody. My son enjoyed all the comments, too, though he thought I should've titled it: "For Fifty Bucks - You Can Have One Too!"
Amazing, indeed. What patience and concentration it must have taken for your son. I'd never shake it it it were mine. A big hug to him. Thanks for sharing your pride with us.

there was so much to read, i almost missed this but am so glad i didn't. that is way way cool. damn. but you can't save it??!!
FusunA - Art has always been the one place he has shown focus, but he created this in a matter of minutes.

Amazing Beckster, Owl - right?

Femme Forte - I have saved it, but also took the picture in case it gets moved or shaken. Wonder if it will survive being packed away with the Christmas stuff?
still laughing at "for 50 bucks you can have one too" sounds like every artist I've ever met :D he is very talented- just like his mom
