Juan Williams, Pt 2: NPR Lays Down the Law on "O'Reilly"

Rate: 4 Flag

While NPR's Juan Williams can state his affiliation when on news programs like "Fox New Sunday" with Chris Wallace, he's not allowed to use his NPR affiliation when appearing on the "O'Reilly Factor." (See previous post.)

As reported by Think Progress:

On Feb. 11, NPR ombudsman Alicia Shepard noted that “NPR’s Vice President of News, Ellen Weiss, has asked Williams to ask that Fox remove his NPR identification whenever he is on O’Reilly.” Yesterday was Williams’s first O’Reilly appearance since that request was made. Since Shepard’s post, Williams has also appeared on Fox News Sunday (Feb. 15), Special Report (Feb. 13 and 16), and Hannity (Feb. 11), during which he was still identified as being affiliated with NPR.

Interestingly, Williams is identified as the author of the campanion book to the civil rights documentary series, "Eyes on the Prize." The book was published over twenty-one years ago.

Mr. Kelley, what is your opinion on this? And on Mr. Williams?
Williams, who speaks out of two journalistic mouths, begs the question: Who is the real Juan Williams? Once liberal, the political switch hitter has lost all credibility with me.
Juan Williams not so long ago was touted by NPR in promos and introduced as a commentator as simply "brilliant." I could never understand this. The man, as I told some friends at the time, is about as sharp as the edges on a children's toy ball. His "analyses" have always been extremely conventional at best. And now, he's openly selling out to the extreme right-wing. Stands to reason.
