Storm Moves over New Jersey and Threatens New York City
June 26th, 2009
The City Prevails

The Storm begins moving in from the Southwest of New Jersey

The Storm makes it way east over New Jersey towards the Hudson

Clouds loom over Manhattan

TheVerrazano Bridge is threatened

The Rain Wall Approaches. It has a Sound

The Rain Wall gets closer. I'm a bit unnerved.

The Rain Wall is here, accompained by Thunder and Lightning.
Very, very frightening.

Finding the concept of electrocution distasteful, this is as far as I would go out on my balcony. Manhattan is somewhere out there.

Taking my life in myhands for the edification of my fellow OSers, I manage to get a shot of Manhattan under siege.

As quickly as it began, the storm ended, leaving behind a gorgeous sky, the scent of cleansed air, and a deep sense of gratiude that living 28 floors in the sky affords me this kind of experience.
I HAD TO UPDATE THIS POST BECAUSE THIS BIG MUTHA OF A STORM BLEW IN REALLY FAST, AND I'M TELLING YOU, IT'S HUGE!

DB - I LOVE a good summer storm. But that was some serious lightning, strike after strike with no time for thunder. With 20 feet of panoramic windows, and a great view I really enjoy the less emotional storms!
Jen - yeah the view is great but I had to walk up and down those stairs during the Blackout of 2005. 28 stories. Yoiks!
DB - I have to say I prefer gray rainy weather (and the cold). It means a season of not having to exfoliate. Is that wrong? Maybe I should move to Oregon.
AB - I have a friend who has a penthouse on the 35th floor that looks east over the Hudson. She has a 40 foot deck, and we plan to get a couple of brewskis, listen to "Stars and Stripes Forever" and thank the powers that be that they remembered the Hudson is a part of NY, too! Woo Hoo!
CG - I think you are younger than I am. Coming to Evanston was a revelation, and I went out in my loafers during the first snow. My third grade teacher was Mrs. Neal and she changed my life. We took her out to dinner at some restaurant that was all caves and stuff. Does that sound familiar? I learned how to ride a bike, and Tommy Dunn, the son of a cop, gave me my first kiss. I loved Evanston.
I used to live in Mt. Vernon. We would go up on the roof of the apartment building on July 4 and watch the fireworks display from Manhattan. On a clear day.....
