Open Call: A First! (With Firsts)

Rate: 8 Flag

Okay, so this isn't technically my first post.   Humor me anyway.

 1. Who was your FIRST prom date?

Never had a prom.

2. Who was your FIRST love and do you still talk with him/her?

My husband, and of course!

3. What was your FIRST alcoholic drink?

Pink champagne.  Sorry, CHEAP pink champagne.

4. What was your FIRST job?

Cashier in a women's clothing store at the mall.  Retail, ugh.

5. What was your FIRST car?

A 1978 Buick Skylark.  I've had two Buicks and loved them both.

6. Who was the FIRST person to text you today?

Nobody.

7. Who is the FIRST person you thought of this morning?

My husband.

8. Who was your FIRST grade teacher?

I haven't the faintest idea.  For some reason, this makes me feel vaguely ashamed.

9. When and where did you go on your FIRST ride on an airplane?

Atlanta in 1976,  back in the days when they still gave out peanuts, playing cards, and 'wings'.  The pilot let me flip all the switches to 'turn on the plane'.

10. Who was your FIRST best friend & do you still talk?

See question #2.

11. Where was your FIRST sleepover?

Never had one.

12. Who was the FIRST person you talked to today?

Do the cats count? My 'man of leisure' was still snoring when I left the house.

13. Whose wedding were you in the FIRST time?

Flower girl in my mother's wedding to my stepfather, 1977.

14. What was the FIRST thing you did this morning?

Same thing I do every morning: stared in wonder at the gorgeous light patterns on my bedroom ceiling, wishing I could capture them on film.  What can I say?  I'm easily amused.

15. What was the FIRST concert you ever went to?

I'm pretty sure it was Steve Winwood at the Mann Music Center in Philly.

16. FIRST tattoo?

An abstract design around my left ankle; two friends and I got the same tattoo at the same time and now every time I look at it I think of them and wonder where they are.

17. FIRST piercing?

My ears at age 9, in 1977, after much begging and pleading.  My first 'real' earrings were Avon's 'Delicate Daisies' and they were heavy.  So heavy, in fact, that in my paranoia over having them fall out, I pushed one of the backs clear into my lobe and had to have the doctor remove it.

18. FIRST foreign country you've been to?

Canada.

19. FIRST movie you remember seeing in the theater?

I can't remember.   The first movie I remember hearing was "The Exorcist". (A drive-in, no babysitter, and the threat of bodily harm if my 6-year-old head popped up over the backseat.)

20. FIRST Detention you had?

Age 10, in 1978.  One of the bullies/mean girls accused me of showing off because I used a polysyllabic word.  I stood up and threw my milk directly into her face in front of the whole dining hall.

21. What was the FIRST state you lived in?

Ohio.

22. If you had three wishes, what would the FIRST one be?

I wish I could wake up one morning and find out that everyone in the world had lost the capacity for fear and greed, and indeed didn't even know what those things were.

23. What is the FIRST thing you would learn if you had the chance?

It's a toss-up between fractal geometry and any language other than English.

Rated for Buick Skylark!
Look at you with your detention story...... not what I'd expect for sure! I loved it!
The Buick Skylark...yeah...that rocks...xox
The dentention story made me laugh.
Ah!! I can't believe that they wouldn't let you at least watch the quiet parts of the Exorcist. hee hee
Gotta love the Buick Skylark!
What the fuck is fractal geometry? And how do I get some?
HB, Robin and Leeandra: I never realized the Buick Skylark was such a popular car! I sold the first one for $500 thinking it needed expensive repairs; I still saw it tooling around town a decade later and kicked myself for getting rid of it.

Cartouche and Ocular: Ah, the detention story. Well, I've never been anything if not straightforward; at the age of 10 I really didn't see what the problem was with a blunt response. (Actually, I still don't but I do promise not to throw milk on anyone.)

Odetteroulette: There were quiet parts in The Exorcist?

Rod: Mmm, fractals. Welcome to obsession: http://classes.yale.edu/fractals/

Thank you all so much for reading and commenting!
weird -- I didn't get detention for it, but when I was in junior high (and 6' tall) some kid asked me how the weather was up there and I happened to be eating ice cream so I spit on him and said it was snowing. NOBODY messed with me for doing that.
What a wonderful way to wake up everyday. Your mind must be open and imaginative:

"Same thing I do every morning: stared in wonder at the gorgeous light patterns on my bedroom ceiling, wishing I could capture them on film. What can I say? I'm easily amused."
skeletnwmn: I bet no one asked you such a stupid question again, either!

Beth: I like to think my mind is open, but apparently it's not open enough to let the imaginative things fall out.
