Bio
I am a mom, wife, and nurse. I love being a nurse, even though I have to say at least once a shift, "This is for your own good." I also secretly love poking people with needles, any size. Plus, the Great Plains are not really that plain.

I'm feeling Kind of Blue: Ode to Beautiful Music, Part 2

Rate: 7 Flag

In light of Kind of Blue's possible departure from OS, I thought it was time for some begging, and beautiful music.

Blues and jazz is the theme this time.

These are some of my favorites to share with everyone.
Hope you like them!
'Round Midnight sung by Ella Fitzgerald
This was my favorite to sing way back when I
did that sort of thing in public.

One of my all-time favorite songs, I used to sing it to my middle child to get her to sleep at night.

Stardust - Nat King Cole

Russell Malone and the Diana Krall trio - Route 66 at the Montreal Jazz Festival. It's almost 8 minutes long, but it's worth it!
These musicians are soooo underappreciated.
Does it really matter what Ella Fitzgerald sings when she sings?
In case you do care, it's Body and Soul.
(There's a little Frank at the beginning, hang in there.)
Ignore the dorky white people at the beginning and the end,
and you have a song that is timeless, lyrics that eat at your heart.
Billie Holliday, God Bless the Child

It was worth coming here for the music, but your tags are pretty awesome too. I hope you get some sleep before work, but as you say, there's always that Espresso Doubleshot:)
nanatehay - i pm'ed you
doubleshots are sold out all over town! it's my lifeblood! i ask the pharmacists at work for IV caffeine and they laugh at me! Then I ask for xanax and they growl at me. So mean, those drug pushers are.
Thank you for taking us back to a sweeter time (musically).
I like early Billie Holiday, when she'd take some insipid pop song like "What a Little Moonlight Can Do" and transform it into a hot but wry little thing that never gets old. The Ella sings Ellington songbook on Verve is good, and check out Alberta Hunter some time.
Blue is like my best bud here, but I don't try to lean on him too much. He knows what he's doing. I would hope he still spends some time around here. I'd hate to see him go. He's like an Icon.
Ella could sing the phone book, yes, she made it seem effortless, but at the same time, her voice was the aural equivalent of pulling taffy.

Glad you folks enjoyed it...
Nice ! some of my favorites. Tom Waits Tom Trauberts Blues crushes me like no other. A life surrounded by music is quite the life. Thanx.
