A New Year's wish for the writers of Open Salon

Rate: 55 Flag

As I look back on a fascinating eleven months contributing here, I can only hope that the next year provides me with the inspiration and support that I received from many of the the writers here.

Some are professionals. That means that they've been paid for the writing. Some are amateurs; they write for the love of writing, and some of these writers aspire to be professionals.

Where do I fit in here? I enjoy the opportunity blog and have people whose writing I read and respect read my work and comment. I've been pleased and surprised to get compliments on a blog that I've posted.

On occasion the Editor's have picked a post and placed it on the cover. I've been grateful for the exposure. What has been more gratifying has been those writers and readers that have added me as a favorite. Some of these folks I've met in real life. Others I've gotten to know through their writing or their comments. But some, in fact many, just add me to their favorites list and read my posts without commenting.

So my wish to the writers at Open Salon in 2010 is write, write, write, and may you all find many readers. Mr. Bill Schwartz has posts at OS because that he gets his work read here.

The writers are the ones who make Open Salon a great place. So while some may obsess over Editor's Picks and Cover placements, I will focus on the writing and hope the readers keep reading.

Best wishes for a Happy and Healthy New Year.

You were one of the first people here to be friendly to me, and I'll never forget that. This can be a daunting place for a newbie. Happy New Year to you and yours, and all the best always. Thanks for being here.
You are such a kind person and genuine soul, and I'm honored to read your words and fortunate to have met you in "real life." I hope your 2010 is beautiful here at OS and in that "real life." Much love.
May you always sit by the car window, have your shaggy hair blowing in the wind, may people always notice your style and smile and know you are OS sheepdog with a blog.
Amen, Sheepy! Write ON!

I agree- I always try to write for the sake of itself. If I don't enjoy it- why do it? And I consider being "favorited" a humongous compliment. Happy New Year to you OE, keep on writing.
Happy New Year to a man who always made me feel right at home here! Thank you too.
OES,
Write because you can't imagine not writing. I'll be here reading you. As will a lot of us. Happy New Year to you, dear heart.
I love the picture of the sheep dog....too sweet.

Let's hope some people don't give out TMI and write about some creative and interesting issues...I'm not interested in hearing about personal sex lives, being abused etc. Lets talk about improving our lives and making a difference in the world...and most of alll creativity! The world would be a better place. The cartoons are great too. Drake

When I first started blogging (on another site; not OS) I had hopes of being "discovered" and getting a professional contract. I'm a columnist at heart, and thought it would be great to get paid for sharing my thoughts every day, since that sort of writing comes easily to me. I still think (about 7 years after my first blog) that it would be great to be a paid columnist, and I wouldn't say no to such an offer but...I write because I like to. And I blog on OS because I do get plenty of interested readers (and interesting responses) here. Like you, OES, I plan to keep writing and reading here, in 2010.
Wishing you a satisfying year of writing and reading in 2010. Cheers!
Well said--and Happy New Year!
I didn't realize how much I needed to read this until I finished reading it. Thanks.
Happy new year to you, too!

Plan on howling at that blue moon tonight?
happy New Year!
Wait, you're in Connecticut? OK, we HAVE to do an OS New England meet up. All three of us. :)
You and I share that sense of accomplishment, Andy. I wasn't too sure at first that I would stay here, I have been particularly timid about my writing in the past. Barry egged me on though, and as people started commenting (too many to mention here but a trickle at first) I began to feel more comfortable.
I love to read, and I love to write. I've never been paid for anything, and I may never be paid for anything. But I'm still going to write. It's not like it's a choice, as you know.

Thanks very much, Andy, for all you do here. May 2010 bring you peace, health, happiness, and (as Jodi Kasten is wont to say) a metric fuckton of readers. :-D
exact-a-mundo. write. just write
(and read and comment)
then write
Hey Sheepy, back at ya! Keep it comin' in 2010. Cheers & rated!
Sheepie, Thank you for your kind thoughts and the encouragement to continue writing! It's so nice to hear because I know it is sent so honestly!
