Bold Predictions for 2011

Rate: 30 Flag

While some might think I'm a 21st century Nostradamus, I do have what I think is an effective track record. So let's look into the Shaggy Dog's crystal ball for 2011.

The next Congress will prove to be contentious and ineffective.

There will be a Government Shutdown. Could mean long term gains for the Democrats (but the Dems could screw up an erotic dream).

DADT will not be repealed by Congress, DADT will be upheld by the US Supreme Court.

The newly elected GOP wing nuts will not be controlled by the GOP establishment. This will lead to both hilarious and disasterous consequences.

Sarah Palin launches an exploratory Presidential campaign committee.

SCOTUS will overturn the lower courts favorable rulings on Gay Marriage.

Attempts to short-circuit health care reform will fail.

Pressure to privatize the TSA will grow. And fail.

Unemployment will exceed 11%. Congress will do nothing. The Private Sector will do nothing. The rich will get richer and the middle class will get screwed.

Michael Vick will lead the Eagles to the Super Bowl. The Patriots or the Jets will face the Eagles. Patriots beat Eagles. Eagles beat Jets.

A Third Party candidate will emerge for President. This candidate will be a woman.

Finally, Open Salon will survive and thrive in 2011.

I bet you're right about all but one.
I like your last one and hope it sticks.
rated with hugs
Cannot argue with any thing you have prognosticated here. Except...

"Pressure to privatize the TSA will grow. And fail."

What corporations want they are getting these days. and they want this pot of gold back even though they screwed it up last time.
I agree that your track record is pretty respectable. I'm not happy about many of these but that's not your fault.
Bill Gates will still be wrong about spam... "Two years from now, spam will be solved." [Bill Gates, 2004]
Agree with all except maybe the Super Bowl. There couldn't be a bit of wishful thinking in that one, could there?
The writing is on the wall, I suppose . . .
We'll see. Take them out at the end of 2011 to see if you were right IF we are here.
That's a really mixed bag. I hope that most of those are wrong, for our collective good. The last is one of my wishes for the new year.
The terms of Vick's probation include a ban on him owning a dog.

Prediction: Vick gets a Komodo dragon.
Well, "screw you".
:-}
that first one is a hedge/gimmee, sheepie -- no fair lobbing yourself an easy one. great list, especially the knock on the dems and sexy sexy. sheesh.

con gets prize for best comment.
If a woman emerges as a Third Party candidate, the Dems are dead in the water - she'll split the vote just enough for the Republicans to romp to a huge victory.
I like this but...I predict the first woman president will be a Republican (not necessarily Sarah Palin, though).
I'm with you (almost) every step of the way. I say "almost" because I believe all of your predictions are concrete except one...The Patriots will win the Super Bowl. I do not say this because I'm psychic, I say this because I grew up in Boston and as all Bostonians know, we are true blue to our teams no matter what city, state or country we reside in.
Am I gonna win the Lotto??? I guess I would have to play that, never mind....
Cartouche -- Yeah but which one?

Linda -- Thanks. We're still here after ad sense.

O'Stephanie -- I think Obama would veto it and there aren't enough votes to override it.

Stacey -- Thanks for not shooting the messenger. I hope I'm wrong on some of these.

Catherine -- Bill Gates is soooo 20th Century.

Bonnie -- It also has the virtue of being true.

Owl -- I hope I'm wrong on those two, but I doubt it.

Lea -- we'll still be here.

bike -- I trust my gut on this one.

Con -- Not on his allowance he gets from the bankrupty court.

Craze Czar -- My record seems to be better than the leading economists.
Hmmmm. Save this and let's compare as 2011 unfolds. I'm predicting a stockmarket crash.
Number One's already happening. As for the last one -- who cares?
Panama is looking ever so sweet.
A brave new world...
I predict that Obama continues to game play the possible Republican moves and determine how he can concede to them.
I'm with you on everything, except one thing. I think Bloomberg might be the third party candidate. Good post. RRR
older/exasperated will disappear like the Cheshire cat. Your probably right on most. theotheralwaysO/E.....my best OEsheepdog R******
I get the feeling that the fifth and eleventh are the same.
Very persuasive, for a sheepdog!
You were on a roll until...
And...US currency will drop/devalue to it's all time low, while China is buying up all the gold it can...

Chinese labor costs have risen to an all time high, leaving the US with egg on it's face for outsourcing most American goods and services to China...plus, China is shipping goods to the US at an all time low...

But, there's always India, Viet Nam, Mexico...and maybe, just maybe, the US will take back it's manufacturing know how and salvage what is left of our economy?

Both Iran and the Taliban will have nuclear capabilities (duh).

Russia will rise again as a super power.

Most of Europe and the US will be bankrupt (already are). It will only get worse.

Garbage/Refuse companies will no longer pick up trash at your house, necessitating homeowners bring their own garbage to the nearest dump...paying for monthly garbage service will be mandatory regardless, to help fund the failing city tills across America. This is already happening in California and I suspect other cities across the nation either are or will follow suit.

Thousands of OS'ers will flock to FB and other social websites for group therapy, before, during and after the demise of Salon.com. (And, it has just begun).

No more ball bustin' predictions for 2011...or realities, that is...?
Bold--and brassy. Like Bonnie, I love the knock on the Dem's. And like Linda, I hope the last one is the true one.
I hope you are right about the last one, I hope the Eagles or Patriots win, and...I hope the rest are too pessimistic, although none of the would be surprising either Medium Dog. :)
That's amazing, you are like a magic man or something!
Did you see anything about me winning the lottery? Kidding (but not really--so let me know!)--I hope that the GOP establishment's inability to control the wing nuts results in splitting up their voters so that no matter what the Dems do to screw up their chances (which it seems they are very good at, as you say!) they will still wind up OK. I can't wait to see what all comes true!
That is one beautiful limb you've chosen to go out on, OES! I see some free will in the free markets, but I also saw some whale in Free Willy.
