A couple of thought experiments.
1, Read some historical books or articles about the former Soviet Union and look at how many of the Politburo would purge those, whose Communist ideology was not pure. Stalin would stand at the top of the list. Substitute the word Communist for Conservative every time you read a pundit, or listen to a GOP presidential candidate talk about real Conservatives. The tea party is hard at work seeking purity of ideology.
Substitute New Soviet Man every time you hear "Real American." The parallels in the political orthodoxy is truly scary.
2. Right wing religious zealots also seek ideological purity. The next you listen to the extremists talk about Christians substitute the word Aryan. This will also chill you when you hear them espouse that America is a Christian nation.
Can Kristallnacht be far behind?

But Vive La Resistance. This idiotic idea that ideological purity is the most important thing is a great part of why I was so glad to see the spirit of protest and joining a cause is not dead in America.
