Three years posting on Open Salon. Few gems, much Drek.

Rate: 61 Flag

On January, 22nd, 2009, I posted on Open Salon for the first time. I got six rates and six comments. Posting in this forum was sort of like doing stand up comedy.

The commenters could be hecklers and the rates and the reads were applause. It was scary. There was so much talent at OS then. There is even more talent at OS now. If I try to compare my talent with others, I will make myself miserable. I am so outclassed. Seriously, without a doubt.

I didn't come here to seek to be the best. I came here to be read. I am fortunate, that you and countless others have stopped by to read my writing. Why? I have no idea.

I never thought I would be as prolific with large number of posts I have written. I decided to try quantity over quality for the obvious reasons. There was no quality.

So today, almost three years to the day later. I still post. Not with the frequency that I used to. Perhaps with a bit more quality than on day one. No who am I kidding.

It's nice to have a bit of a following. I am grateful to all of you who read. Those of you who comment and rate are very special people. You are son incredibly discerning and you recognize great talent when you see it. And you read my posts, too.

Will I still be blogging three years from now? Will you still be reading? Thanks so much for the bottom of my heart.

I am delighted to provide drek and almost on a daily basis and I hope to do it for years to come.
Good on you, Andy, for your perserverence!

r.
I don't post, read, or comment as much as I used to, but you've always been a constant as long as I've been around OS, and I appreciate both your writing and your support of so many other writers here, me included. Thank you, and happy 3rd blogiversary!
If you write, I read. Happy 3rd year here, Sheepie. ~r
Happy 3 years. You've been a staple here for all the time I've been around and much appreciated. Hope we will all be here three years from now. It's a "place" like no other.
"So today, almost three years to the day later. I still post. Not with the frequency that I used to. "

I don't post very much any more. My problem is that I just ran out of things to say. I don't know all that much about anything. So I wrote about what I knew, and then that was it, end of "blogging career." I posted on a semi-regular basis for around 18 months, and then the well ran dry.
Three seems to be the magic number right now for blogiversaries. Congrats, and I hope you keep writing for a while longer.
OEsheepdog, congratulations on hitting the three year mark here!!! It's been my pleasure to read your many fascinating posts, to have your great comments left on mine, and to have joined you twice in the city for fun get togethers! As they say...it doesn't get any better than that! Best wishes for many more years here and I look forward to our next meet-up!
I'm inconsistently present here, but never an inconstant fan of my faves! THREE years! wowie! Glad to read you and get to know you better! Rock on SheepDOG!
I'm a baby on here (one full week...), and I can only hope to have the same dedication as you.

Love the post, and now ya got another follower...me
If you're still posting, I'll still be reading. I'm glad you're here, OE.
Why do I read you? For the same reason I've always read, for pleasure and what you write pleases me.

Happy Anniversary!
Glad to see ya still hanging around Sheepie.
Keep on hanging dear!! You are gem....
Happy 21 in dog years!
You're one of the bright spots here, Andy. Your presence here is one of the reasons I keep coming back.
Happy Blogiversary and many, many more! Posting is akin to stand-up comedy...sometimes the best pieces have no audience at all...I always enjoy stopping by to see what you're up to!
Now that I don't have time to come here as much or even want to, I think of more things to write. You've been a steady and welcome portion of the scene.
Sheepie,

Happy anniversary! You deserve all the best. I read your work because you're so talented.

XOXOXO

P.S. Please send my best regards to your lovely wife.
As long as I can read and write, I will be here. Unless OS implodes before that. It is always a pleasure to read your posts, I have seen many gems. I also love it when you stop by and make a comment on one of my poems.
rated with love and anticipation of many more of your gems
Seriously, Sheepie, when I sign onto OS and see your name in the feed, your blog is one of the first places I go. Why? Because it makes me feel superior! (Rimshot) No, no, that's not it, it's because you keep it brief! (Rimshot). No, no, it's because your writing is always filled with a clear wisdom and a fine sense of humor (and brevity!), and your blog is never a waste of time. Except when you're writing about the Patriots.
Glad to see you are still here, still giving encouragement.
It's been a pleasure OE. Keep it up.
Congratulations to one of the best writers here!
Sheep Dog: What's this about quality? I have certainly found quality over quantity here. I haven't been here every time but I can't recall ever being disappointed when I dropped in. Cheers to more gems. Keep 'em coming.

Happy anniversary! R
Congratulations Andy and sending much love..
HUGGGGGGGGG
I've enjoyed you very often. I don't think you ever give drek. Happy Blogivesary and I hope you stay till the bitter end ;)
I have to disagree: you do bring quality observations. I think that there is solid talent here, yours included. You do not sound like the kind of person that has to say something eloquently to make it real, scan by some approved standard.
You're the real deal. That's damn good. Do appreciate your points, man. Stay strong - please keep writing from the heart- soul.

As a member of the dreking crew my experience here was initially merely to present a few concepts and tricks to introduce myself. I was not seeking notoriety nor to be emblazoned on the front page as I had no concepts as to the traditions and ambitions on the site. It was merely a place somewhat superior to the surface of the inner door of one of the cubicals of the men's room where a felt marker could express poesy. It let all those creepy thoughts that perpetrate throughout that mass of meat in my skull to spill out where I and someone else might wonder at the ingenuity of raw protein. Much better than leafing through internet sites for a bit of pornography trepidating at the thought that a wicked piece of code might digest the entire contents of my computer at the sight of an interesting configuration of a female behind.
I have slowed quite bit since my initial flood of submissions attempting to chew the cud a bit more before spitting it out for public display.
I'm sure you feel somewhat the same way.
Hey! What are friends for?
Besides, I've always had a soft spot for doggies that chase sheep instead of cats......(ᴼ‿ᴼ)

Hey Sheppie! We're all in this together. And I am glad you're here!
Happy anniversary, Sheepdog!
I like providing drek on a regular basis, keeps me fresh and clean!! ~:D

RATED!!!!
Happy Blogiversary Shep!! Isn't this a weird world of half shadows to participate in?

Hey, Dawg, I'm glad you're still here.
Much drek? Dog. Please.
You know, of course, that it dog years this is your 21st anniversary. Good for you, I certainly enjoy what you write.
Happy blogiversary! I'm trying to write more this year, read and comment more this year than I did in 2011. You are still on my Favorites list.
there's plenty of drek, sadly, but your stuff has never been that, sheepie, not even one time. you are one of the people who blog here whose posts i always read and rate, whether i heartily agree with what you say or not, and that's a *really* short list of writers. i'm glad you're still here and hope you'll stick around. happy anni, pal.
Thank you for continuing to write, sir.
congrats on this third anniversary
You've written some of favorites on Open!
As long as you don't start quoting the OED, you should continue to keep blogging. It will be 2 years for me in march, and I wonder how much has changed for me in this time here, surely more than I can imagine.
Happy many more years OE! Best wishes.
R♥
OE, drek is underrated. If it wasn't for the drek that you (allegedly) and I (most certainly) produce, who would recognize the truly gifted writers?

From the beginning, you have given friendship and support -- someone I wish was a neighbor, so I could pop down the street, break open a couple cold ones and tell you how thoroughly I'm disgusted with the Super Bowl matchup. Happy 3rd blogiversary.
Happy Anniversary. Methinks thou protesteth a bit much; you are read because you have interesting things to say, a unique point of view, and you write in a very readable conversational style. Keep it up.
Not only have I had the good pleasure of reading you for three years, but I got to have breakfast with you in NYC (lovers of the NY Giants...sorry couldn't resist). You are as delightful in person as you are in the written form. I hope you'll be still writing for OS in 3 years and I will still be reading you. So glad you found us.
I think I passed three years in November, but I could be wrong, you were always here as far as I remember, you know the OS annals of survivorship are important.
Congrats and keep writing Sheepie.
Happy 3rd year! If nothing else, we are lucky to still be here; it's weird how our little O.S. arena has suffered quite a few people passing on. Always happy to see/read you!
You are an integral part of OS - so glad you're here. Three years from now - you still post - I'll still read. xo
Congrats on three years!
Happy Three Years...it's always a pleasure to see you have written something. I'm at almost 3 myself. Keep it up.
Wonderful to see you still posting.
Only the Shadow knows, Sheepie. I was right there with you, just a few days behind and thought you'd been here forever. It seems like you've been here forever. Does that make you 'old' in OS years?
If I recall correctly you got a visit from the transit police over one post, so never doubt that you've had an impact. I always read you, although since I get here from Google and they are now collecting privacy data, I may have to wear a wire.
