I remember a elementary school writing assignment asking me to write 200 words about how I spent my vacation. I failed that assignment miserably.
I handed in "I went to sleepaway camp for eight weeks and had lots of fun."
I was 188 words short.
This summer vacation I went to California for two weeks. I decreased my internet comsumption the first week, and went cold turkey for five days as I spent five days in a lakeside home in the the Sierras eight thousand sleep above sea level, without electricity, or internet or cell phones.
I really didn't miss the web, or cell coverage. Apparently what I did miss was the following:
Lots of high temperatures and humidity on the East Coast. Actually I didn't "miss it." I just wasn't there to experience it.
Mitt Romney made another gaffe. Of course he had to travel to another country to do it.
I missed the start of NFL training camp. Time to catch on those memorable Bill Belichick press conferences.
I missed the release of the Freeh report on Joe Paterno and his poltroonery.
I missed the crazed shootings and massacre in Colorado. I also missed the exploitation of the "victims" and "heroes" by the cable news channels.
I missed some things that were sublime, ridiculous, offensive and tragic.
I missed you, too.
