The past few posts I wrote were about my job.  Well, this one will be no different.  CPS is full of mandates.  I think I've mentioned before that there needs to be a mandater (if that's such a word) of the mandates.  I try to teach English but because of the mandates that falls upon the English Department, it is difficult to do so.  I was asked when I could give up some classroom time for one of these mandates and I said Friday (tomorrow).  The person who is supposed to come in and run this program told me that their start time is 9am and they will not be able to come to my first class.  I told this individual that it's all or nothing.  I am not going to find one assignment for one class. 

Now, this is totally crazy.  You want me to give up time, but you are not willing to make a sacrifice.  Then this person tried to threaten me by saying if this isn't done, they school may get shut down.  Well, it seems like that may be in the working and if it does, it may be a good thing.  With all the negative publicity this school has gotten in the past weeks, I wouldn't be surprised.  Also, this area is prime location for the 2016 olympics.  Do you think the Mayor and his cronies are going to have poor students attending school and potentially defacing property when/if the olympics come?  I think it is just a matter of time before this actually happens.    But, I had to remind this person that I am certified in the State of Illinois to teach English, not Chicago.  I don't think people realize that.  By the way, before I began teaching, I had a few other careers and I can return to them if need be.
