A new app from Google Labs will make parking easier for some and have others participating in social media in their cars.

Google Open Spot

Drivers can will their parking spaces to other drivers through a Google map. Marking it on the map will alert other drivers that the spot is available.

People looking for spaces can check the app on their mobile device within an 0.9 mile radius. The map is color-coded as to how fresh the parking spot still is.

If you’re interested, check for Google “Open Spot” in your app store.

This is so idealistic but I live in New York. Often I note that folk actually take longer to move out of a spot if they think someone is waiting. This may be a perception but I have been in other places where drives move out at a perceived faster rate. This app will work only if good human nature is in play. Also enough subscribers need to be present in the same area. Then again imagine the potential for wars to break out as someone who has been driving around is told by another driver that "this is" their "spot". The value of real estate is greatest when it comes to parking spots especially in New York.
