Obama's Agenda: Where Is Labor?

Rate: 1 Flag

Just a quick note - with apologies - I haven't had much time to spend here lately, and there are a lot of things I would have like to say that have gone unsaid. But here's one I couldn't pass up.

Just out of curiosity, I took a look at the new, improved presidential website installed by the BHO administration yesterday. The page listing BHO's "agenda" covers a lot of issues that we can all agree need to be addressed - health care, energy, environment, poverty, civil rights, and so on. But there's one thing notably missing.

There is no mention of LABOR! After all the contributions and doorbell ringing by organized labor that went into getting BHO elected, wouldn't you expect that the agenda would at least mention vital issues like getting the card-check bill passed, revamping the NLRB, and so on? (Not to mention repealing Taft-Hartley, which I wouldn't expect a centrist Demo like BHO to endorse.) Nada. Bupkess. Zilch.

This omission ties in nicely with the lack of representation for labor on BHO's transition team.  See my prior post on that subject - my one and only Editor's Pick so far, so it must be worth reading, right? Give him points for consistency, at least.

Damn good question. And a good catch. His pick for Labor Sec looks good but if he's going to ignore her and her issues get no traction in-house, what she can do is going to be very limited.
