I used to be a hippie peacenik, and still am a socialist. Sonnet Fest: My Contribution

Rate: 7 Flag

Normally I don't participate in the purely fun-and-games stuff on OS - though I do enjoy reading it when I have time (gotta love that Freaky Troll!). But the sonnet thing that's going around now gives me a chance to participate without breaking my vow only to post politically related blog entries and comments here. So, inspired by this recent article in the Economist, and without further ado, I give you:

Paris in the Spring, Socialist Style

'Tis spring, and in the streets of Paris, France,
Amid the daffodils that grace the day,
The workers and the students have their chance
To show the world a new and better way.

The bosses' turn to rule has come and gone
And now the working folk must take the reins.
Come join us! Workers, students, everyone!
Through strikes and walkouts we will win our gains.

The older folk remember Sixty-Eight,
But, "Things are graver now," the youngsters shout,
"As climate change is threatening the fate
Of Earth, the planet we can't live without!
Toward socialism let us turn our face;
We must act now to save the human race!"

Vive la France! Vive la revolution!
Ooooh - thanks! I didn't think anyone would even read this, much less comment. Thank you.
WOW! I'm glad you decided to play! Poetry inspired by The Economist ~ first time ever, I bet!!!

:)
Larry, please read my "What I Mean by Socialism" post (linked in the links section on my blog page). The socialism I'm talking about has never been given a fair try, so it cannot be described as having failed.

That said, I make no pretense of being a great poet.
Not to mention "Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite" (and these days, I guess one should add "Sororite?).

Thanks for the visit, Stellaa and Cat.
