It's 115 degrees.
I need new vistas, I need a refreshing new point of view. I need a different breeze in my hair, and cooler water on my face.
They say, if you are bored, you are boring. I am not a thrill seeker, but perhaps I need some amusement in my life to make it all more palatable.
I just finished reading another book, an eBook, State of Wonder. I don't want to go to the jungles outside of Manaus. I think of my college days when Spain lay before me, rail pass in hand, backpack and camera in hand. I think of my weeks after med school. Norway and Sweden and Denmark welbekommening... rucksack, laptop, and smaller camera in hand. Oh, the fjords. How I have missed you.
In a month I will be traveling, and some vistas will be new, and some old, and all will be anti-Phoenix. But that is then, and this is now.
In my mind's heart, I need a new safari. Somewhere to explore that I have not overvisited through books and writing and netsurfing. I need a new section of the bookstore. I need a new cafe. I need a new coffee drink. I need a new neighborhood to turn down on the way to the store. I need some fresh air.
I did my weekly hunter/gather at Sprout's and Fresh&Easy. Always juggling tried and true, with interesting and new. Not all the fish are equally tasty...
So, it must be time for a safari. Half of our jungles are on fire, and it limits my search to everywhere else. Now, to just find me a good hat and sturdy shoes, a linen suit, and get out my field glasses. There are some birds to watch and some natives to observe.

Maybe it's time for a recorder or a cello or something. That gets me through the hot and boring times in Sacramento. Easy to practice when the windows are closed anyway.
I hope they are filled with joy
