A Super-Duper Father's Day Post

Rate: 2 Flag

Okay. 30 entries as of today. Deadline is 12:01 a.m. on Monday, but I want to list all of the entries so that you can click on them and vote! for the ones that you think deserving of our first "creative contest prize." I think we've guaranteed that we'll be doing another one of these. I would like some feedback on how you think "anonymity" has worked. But first, the 30 entries that have been received so far. I will do a supplemental list on Sunday night. You'll have approximately 48 hours after the submission deadline closes to vote for the five winners.

People have worked their asses off on these entries. Please visit as many as you can and rate them if you like them. The top five will be winning the prize packages from Hachette.
My only comment on anonymity is that it, and the prohibition of comments, have eliminated two of the strongest mechanisms for driving traffic to a post. I don't know what the solution is; I just know that some great writing has had less readership (so far) than it's deserved. Maybe everyone's waiting to make sure all the entries are in before they rate.
Yes. It's a problem, isn't it? You can't generate buzz, other than by reading a post and then sending notes out to your friends saying, "hey check out ...."
It's an experiment, and we can decide whether it's failed or not. Some would argue, however, that there are people on this site who get ratings just for being who they are, and I was trying to eliminate that.
I'm definitely open to suggestions on how to deal with this next time, as there will be a new writing contest next week some time.
... so everyone that has read any of these stories should leave a comment on this blog-- for traffic!
these have been brilliant. some I kind of recognize (author's style). but the forum you have provided is perhaps a genesis for things to come.
Oh, rats, I forgot that this was going on, and I wrote my Father's Day post yesterday and just put it up. A little nagging voice told me I wasn't remembering something but I've been working so hard, that voice is *always* with me right now. I'm still going to read all of these.
This is a great collection of essays..different styles, themes, etc. I think the anonymity has worked well, but it has been tricky (work or something) to remember to check for new posts. Having said that, I have just made sure to check the blog daily. Thanks for organising this, Lorraine, and thanks to all the writers who put themselves out there on a topic that clearly has caused pain, shame, sadness, joy in the lives of many.
