OS Book Club: Moving Forward

Rate: 3 Flag

Alrighty, bookworms, I hope you've been enjoying Tinkers.  We'll be having our final discussion a week from today, and then we'll be starting our next book.

Our next book?  Yes, we need a next book.  What should we read next, Book Clubbers?  Please leave your suggestions in the comments.

Also, please let me know if you'd be interested in leading the next go-around. We need a new Ms. Bossy Pants/Galactic Overlord/whatever title you'd like.
Yes. We need someone who wants to be in control. I second his Galactic Overlord on that one.
I'll be ready to read Tinkers next week.
I'd like to suggest Terry Tempest Williams' REFUGE as our next book, and I'd even be prepared to lead the discussion as it is a book I've taught before and am planning on teaching this fall.
I want you all to know that I read REFUGE and loved it. It's right up there with my favorite books of all time. Even if you aren't into the topics of feminism, spirituality, deep ecology or family, you'll love the author and the prose.

Only Shaggylocks and I attended the last discussion...it was so lonely without y'all. We did have a great time and I am enjoying Tinkers immensely, thanks S'locks for choosing it. Can't wait for all your comments at the final discussion.
Hi Hazel,

I don't know you or Shaggylocks, but I've sort of been out of commission, but am planning on staging a comeback after I get these job and health issues straightened out.

So, I'll hopefully be involved in the next book discussion. Sorry I missed Tinkers.

Hazel,
I'm glad you're enjoying the book! I'm really into it as well.
Hazel, I'm glad you showed up at least so it wasn't just Shaggy all by himself. I wanted to participate but I was in the wilds with no electricity. And I don't even have the book yet, so not sure if I'll be able to join for the final discussion. But I can't wait to read this next book and finally join in!
The Refuge is on my Fifteen in Fifteen List of yesterday. It really is that good! What do you have to do to be included in the book discussions?
BookGirl (Great name, you'll be a book club natural!):
All you need to do is show up.
I'm almost finished reading Tinkers (I just commented on the discussion post--it's PRETTY! I'm outside with Howard or George...I'm out there hearing the sounds...) It's a good book.

What is Refuge about? Feminism! Yahoo! Spirituality! Yay! Ecology! Sounds good to me!

When I finish Tinkers I'm going to pull out last year's collection of 2008's Short Stories and finish that off. And I'll try to make it in time for the last discussion of Tinkers.
If there are no objections, I'd like to suggest that when we finish our discussion of TINKERS, that we turn to Terry Tempest Williams, Refuge. You should be able to find it in paperback, on audiobook, in used bookstores, and in plenty of libraries. And I'd be happy to lead the discussion unless there's an objection.
I didn't participate at all for the first two, although I loved when I had time to check in and read comments! Thanks for keeping on, OS Book Club!
"Refuge". Sounds great and I love the idea that you've taught it and REMAIN enthusiastic - that's a good sign!
Did anyone think about the title Tinkers? While the father's (Howard) profession had been that of a tinker (peddler, smose) before he left the family, no one else was...except that George 'tinkered' with clocks, but that was not his profession....
When are we going to start talking about TINKERS?
Even though I have read Refuge multiple times, I would love nothing better than to participate in a discussion about it. And I would have a reason to pull it off the shelf and read it again!
Hope it's soon!!!!! (I'll go get Refugee in the meantime!)
