The Atlantic magazine published this photo today of Rich Iott (AKA "Reinhardt Pferdmann"), the Ohio GOP candidate for the U.S. House under the headline: Why is that GOP Candidate Dressed Like a Nazi? By Joshua Green.
The Faux News Show reported that the Ohio Republican candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives is “under attack” concerning his “father-son bonding” reenacting military history.
Nazi Germany military history.
Wearing Waffen-SS uniforms, Iott and his son attended historical reenactments of the 5th SS Panzer Division assault on the Eastern Front against the Russians during WW II, only quiting three years ago when Iott says his son "lost interest". Kids are like that. No matter how good a role model you are to your son, sometimes they just lose interest. ("Nazis are so neardy, Dad.")
The following quote is one Candidate Iott released as a written statement on his webpage after he figured out that he might have offended the Jewish Community and US soldiers and veterans:
Eric Cantor, the U.S. House of Representatives Minority Whip, was backed into a corner over the issue in a debate with Representative Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-FL) televised on the Sunday Fox News Show. Per Politico:
"She [Wasserman] knows that I would absolutely repudiate that and not support that," Cantor said.
"Well, you haven't," Wasserman Schultz said.
Iott’s Germanic alter ego name, "Reinhard Pferdmann", translates into “horse man”. (Funny, I was just thinking of horse anatomy.)
That's Rich in the center, reloading.

I just had to make fun of it. It is just so incredibly beyond the pale. He is dressing it up as a "father/son bonding thing" and an interest in history. The history of war.
Imagine sharing war as a value rather than peace. John Lennon...
It is worse that he chose to be a Nazi soldier. He would have had to buy these things online from some websites that were proNazi. In the Fox article he talked about how "idealistic" the SS soldier was in fighting Communism. Sugar coated Fascism. The uniform itself remains such a powerful symbol of the great evil that destroyed so many people. Confederate soldiers just do not horrify like an SS uniform.
Ask John Guzlowski.

Who knew the Gestapo was into line-dancing?
Unbelieveable...
Looking at these right wing nuts, you can see their true nature being revealed.
Fred,
That movie was a comedic classic, eh?
Yes, this creep is cringe-worthy. In the Faux article he waxes eloquent about how "idealistic" these German SS soldiers were. He openly admired them for doing as much as they did (conquering Europe? exterminating so many millions?) in the face of British and US attack.
He really does not get it.
Fay,
He really defends this as a "hobby". What an ugly underbelly this tea party animal has...
aim,
WIth Halloween just around the corner, I imagine that there will be plenty of very strange outfits out there.
I bet that Rich still has his uniform hanging in his closet. Ready at a moment's notice.
Scanner,
It is like they have no shame. O right, they DO have no shame.
if there are any reasonable Republicans left, shouldn't they be asking themselves why people like this feel so comfortable and at- home in the Republican party?
Can of worms...

Love the story actually. They could never show it in Europe...
