Rich Iott's Favorite Song: “Springtime for Hitler”

Rate: 11 Flag

The Atlantic magazine published this photo today of Rich Iott (AKA "Reinhardt Pferdmann"), the Ohio GOP candidate for the U.S. House under the headline:  Why is that GOP Candidate Dressed Like a Nazi? By Joshua Green.

The Faux News Show reported that the Ohio Republican candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives is “under attack” concerning his “father-son bonding” reenacting military history.

Nazi Germany military history.

Wearing Waffen-SS uniforms, Iott and his son attended historical reenactments of the 5th SS Panzer Division assault on the Eastern Front against the Russians during WW II, only quiting three years ago when Iott says his son "lost interest". Kids are like that. No matter how good a role model you are to your son, sometimes they just lose interest. ("Nazis are so neardy, Dad.")

The following quote is one Candidate Iott released as a written statement on his webpage after he figured out that he might have offended the Jewish Community and US soldiers and veterans:

"Never, in any of my re-enacting of military history, have I meant any disrespect to anyone who served in our military or anyone who has been affected by the tragedy of war, especially the Jewish Community. I have immense respect for veterans who served our country valiantly, particularly those who fought to rid the world of tyranny and aggression by relegating Nazism to the trash heap of history. I also believe we need to 'never forget' what happened to Jews during that war."

Eric Cantor, the U.S. House of Representatives Minority Whip, was backed into a corner over the issue in a debate with Representative Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-FL) televised on the Sunday Fox News Show. Per Politico:

"She [Wasserman] knows that I would absolutely repudiate that and not support that," Cantor said.

"Well, you haven't," Wasserman Schultz said.

"I'm doing that right here," Cantor, who is Jewish, responded. "I'm doing that right here. You know good and well I don't support anything like that."

Iott’s Germanic alter ego name, "Reinhard Pferdmann",  translates into “horse man”. (Funny, I was just thinking of horse anatomy.)

I saw this today on Huffington and could not believe my eyes.
Do people not have brains?
rated with hugs
I just had to make fun of it. It is just so incredibly beyond the pale. He is dressing it up as a "father/son bonding thing" and an interest in history. The history of war.
Imagine sharing war as a value rather than peace. John Lennon...
Yet we turn a blind eye to the ones who play on the Confederate side in the civil war re-enactments? Come on. They're all pervs and psychos.
Hello xenonlit,
It is worse that he chose to be a Nazi soldier. He would have had to buy these things online from some websites that were proNazi. In the Fox article he talked about how "idealistic" the SS soldier was in fighting Communism. Sugar coated Fascism. The uniform itself remains such a powerful symbol of the great evil that destroyed so many people. Confederate soldiers just do not horrify like an SS uniform.
Ask John Guzlowski.
Wow...hard to believe some folks, "Son, let's go play, we'll be the Nazis!" ????
But I like "Springtime for Hitler and Germany", especially the Dah Ta Da Da part, it's peppy and you can dance to it.
Who knew the Gestapo was into line-dancing?
Hey, just thinking...
Looking at these right wing nuts, you can see their true nature being revealed.

That movie was a comedic classic, eh?
His apology made me cringe a little, like I was sensing it was not very sincere and made because he felt forced to do so. What a dope.
This is just sick. I don't know what we've come to when someone who admits he admired Hitler can run for office.
My eyes hurt. I don't understand why we can't have modern dress for racist bigots. Bigot Burkhas - kind of like a Klan sheet, but, y'know...
This is so great. Idiots like him should be found out "before" we elect them. The new teaparty candidates have no idea how their background will be investigated.
Yes, this creep is cringe-worthy. In the Faux article he waxes eloquent about how "idealistic" these German SS soldiers were. He openly admired them for doing as much as they did (conquering Europe? exterminating so many millions?) in the face of British and US attack.
He really does not get it.

He really defends this as a "hobby". What an ugly underbelly this tea party animal has...

WIth Halloween just around the corner, I imagine that there will be plenty of very strange outfits out there.
I bet that Rich still has his uniform hanging in his closet. Ready at a moment's notice.

It is like they have no shame. O right, they DO have no shame.
playing dress-up is one thing, praising the "idealism" of the SS is something else altogether

if there are any reasonable Republicans left, shouldn't they be asking themselves why people like this feel so comfortable and at- home in the Republican party?
Roy, that is an interesting question. Even if TPers win, will even the repugnicans be able to stomach them, much less tell them how to vote?
Can of worms...
There's Good and there's Evil. He chose. Oh Oh Rich, you loose.
Actually, tg within, I think the correct word is:

Louse as in singular lice
This has nothing to do with the post--well, just the title. I saw Mel Brooks do an interview once where he was asked about the song "Springtime for Hitler," and he said originally he toyed with other concepts, with other titles: "March Right In Like a Mussolini," "February and the Franco Friends," and (my all-time favorite) "The Lenintastiks." But, he said, being a big Jew.... Anyway, I love Mel, that's all I wanted to say. Rated.
You are welcome to stop by and comment upon whatever you want. (Except my feathers. My adult feathers are still coming in.)
Love the story actually. They could never show it in Europe...
