Obama is NOT a Do-Nothing President (UPDATE)

Rate: 35 Flag

VOTE 2010

According to disgruntled Progressives, Obama has done too little.

According to nervous Conservatives, Obama has done too much.

Although this is a first for me, I believe that the Conservatives are closer to the naked truth here.

According to scholars who keep track of such things, Obama’s first two years are record breaking in the amount of legislation and significant change that he has been able to implement. For starters, he has begun the end of the Iraq War, pushed universal Health Care through a corporate-owned Congress, and signed important civil rights laws concerning women and gays. If McCain had been elected, none of these things would have been accomplished.

What do you want? Egg in your beer? *

The one threat that the Conservatives fear is the electorate. They have gone to great lengths to circumvent the people’s power to vote. Supreme Court Chief Justice Roberts asked to review the case which resulted in the unleashing of secret unlimited corporate funding in order to heavily influence the vote. The GOP recently released a TV ad in Nevada, urging Hispanics not to vote. ("The Republican group Latinos for Reform had planned to eventually run the commercials in Nevada, Florida, California, Texas and Colorado.")

Most egregiously, corporate-owned Main Stream Media has perpetuated the national narrative that there is an “enthusiasm gap” among Democratic voters who are “disappointed and angry” that more has not been accomplished. The MSM has all but announced that the Democrats are going to lose big.

Who wants to vote for losers?

Ever hear of a self-fulfilling prophecy? The Conservatives are hoping for a small turnout which is always good for their candidates. What does that say about their ideology when they can only win if the people look away?

Truth is the only weapon the Progressives have to fight this Corporate Conservative take-over, and the truth is that Obama has accomplished much more than the MSM has reported.

Political Science Professor Robert P. Watson, Ph.D., is a Presidential scholar who has compiled a list of 244 of Obama’s accomplishments in his first two years in office. (Dr. Watson’s CV lists publication of 31 books and 125 articles, chapters, and reviews.) Below is a quote from Dr. Watson, characterizing the gap between Obama’s accomplishments and media coverage:

“[Obama’s] first six months have been even more active than FDRs or LBJs the two standards for such assessments. Yet, there is little media attention given to much of what he has done. Of late, the media is focusing almost exclusively on Obama's critics, without holding them responsible for the uncivil, unconstructive tone of their disagreements or without holding the previous administration responsible for getting us in such a deep hole. The misinformation and venom that now passes for political reporting and civic debate is beyond description.”

Dr. Watson is also the founder and director of Think Act Lead, a think tank dedicated to improving civil education and engagement.

The following is Dr. Watson's list. Some promises have been kept; others have been blocked by the Party of No. Either way, the important thing is that these issues, which are ignored by the GOP, are on the table now.

Just imagine how many of these accomplishments would not have been addressed had McCain won in 2008.

   Components of the bill

      - Prevents insurance companies from denying coverage to individuals/family members with pre-existing health conditions; a temporary plan is being developed to cover high-risk individuals with pre-existing conditions until the full reforms go into effect in 2014

    - Prevents insurance companies from placing lifetime limits on benefits

   - Bans “rescission” so insurance companies can’t cancel coverage if individuals keep their policies current or if they become ill

   - An individual’s out-of-pocket healthcare expenses are capped

   - Closes the “donut hole” (Part D) for Medicare prescription drug coverage (under Bush, Medicare helped pay for drugs up to $2,600 and above $4,550, but individuals had to pay 100% of the costs in between these amounts); now Medicare helps cover costs irrespective of the amount

    – Seniors will now pay only 25% of drug costs up to $4,550 and only 5% of drug costs above that amount

   - In 2010, an emergency provision will offer seniors a $250 rebate on the costs incurred within the “donut hole”- Individuals living at or below the poverty line were eligible for healthcare under Medicaid, but by 2014 individuals/families living slightly above (making up to $14,404/$29,327) the poverty line will also be eligible for benefits

    - Individuals/families making less than $43,320/$88,200 per year will qualify for government subsidies to help purchase health insurance

    - All individuals must have health insurance or face a government fine; all large (over 50 employees) employers must offer health insurance to employees or pay a fine- Small businesses can get a tax credit if they offer health care

    - There are hardship exemptions if individuals can’t afford health insurance

    - Families can keep their children in college on their plans through age 26

    - Promotes health insurance “exchanges” so consumers can buy “wholesale”

    - Creates consumer assistance offices to help consumers file complaints or appeal decisions from insurance companies; beginning in 2011, insurance companies can no longer make excessive rate hikes without justification and approval, and those doing so may be barred from participating in new health insurance exchanges Funding sources:

    - Large employers (over 50 workers) that don’t offer health benefits will be charged a $2,000/worker fee; if the employer offers coverage but employees instead purchase federally subsidized insurance the fee is $3,000/worker receiving federal subsidies or $750/worker (whichever is lower)

    - Annual fees on pharmaceutical companies ($27 billion), health insurance companies ($60 billion), and medical device-makers ($20 billion)

    - Annual penalties on individuals who do not have health insurance (up to a maximum of $695/person)

    - Increase in the Medicare payroll tax from 1.45% to 2.35% for individuals making $200,000+ and families making $250,000+- 3.8% tax on unearned income for millionaires

    - Insurance companies will be subject to a tax on each high-end insurance plan (so-called “Cadillac” plans) they offer.

   Miscellaneous:

    - Illegal immigrants are not eligible for insurance or subsidies

    - By Executive Order, such federal funding can’t be used for abortion

Wonderful post. If you watch the news, you'd think the guy was out picking his nose the whole time. Rated.
Thanks TMK,
Yeah, I was glad to find this list from such a scholarly source. The sheer volume is impressive.
Thank you for posting such a thorough list. I have bookmarked it for further discussion.
I've always said the one thing the professional politican fears is a well informed voter. Thank goodness for the internet.
What a list! When I hear someone say Obama hasn't done anything but pass health care reform my retort has always been "...Then you haven't been paying attention!" Now I can hit with this formidable list you have so considerately catalogued! Good job!
kateasley,
I was surrised when I saw everything together. It is impressive but you would not know it to listen to MSM.

eastinidaho,
Thanks. I am hoping that it will serve as a kind of resource.

ocularnervosa,
Yeah, the repugs love an uninformed voter they can tell how to vote.
Let's hope that the interent helps to keep them honest!
That took forever to read. the man has been busy.
Thanks Steph, a very nice list indeed. I think in general, people tend to root for their home team, or where their hearts and interest lie. In addition, the things one doesn't like about the the things people do who are in their personal alignment tend to get glossed over a bit. Not always, but the tendency is there.

So what I'm saying is that willful ignorance is not the sole provenance of republicans. There are things that loyal democrats can take Obama to task for, but by in large, he has done a remarkable job in the face of incredible hurdles and a legacy of deceit, outright lies, unlawful acts by the previous administration. So why the short or selective memory on all the terrible things that Bush did to our country? The common meme from right wingers now is that Bush really wasn't a true conservative, but in fact they fail to own up to a very high likelihood that they voted for the man twice. They cannot conceive placing themselves within the aphorism that "it takes a village of idiots to elect the village idiot." Go ahead and have a beer with the man, vote for the hapless idiot O'Donnell because she's "just like you." But now that an intelligent, resourceful and accomplished man occupies the Oval Office, republicans are saying "I'm going to treat "your" president just like you treated "my" president. Last I looked, whether elected by hook or crook or legitimately, the president is president of all of us.

Given the cards he was dealt with, he's done quite well.
Thank you for this incredible list of Obama Achievements. Fox and CNN would benefit from your input into election discussions
He hasn't done nothing. But were still in the middle east, credit card companies are chaging 70% interest, there is 10% unemployment, we have a HMO stimulus package that will force everyone to buy healthcare, a disaster in the gulf that couldnt have taken longer to correct had Carrot Top been in charge, actually doing the impossible and making the Bush response to Katrina look fast. We have a trillion dollar anual budget deficit, 13 trillion in debt, a 50 trillion Medicaid Medicare obligation. Everything is honkey dorey if you just repost DNC talking points. Otherwise, the country is in a depression, our debt is horrific and getting worse, taxes are too high on many who's property tax already pay for police, fire and schools and get diddly from the Federal government and their 25-30% income tax. Everything is coming up roses.
Thanks, Dicky.
btw, loved your last post!

Geraint,
This is the longest post I have evered done. Thanks for wading through it. Gives you a sense of all the smaller issues that he has tackled. Cleaning house has many chores.

bbd,
I agree that political opinion is often emotional rather than rational on both sides. (There is a PET scan study out there somewhere that confirms this.)
However, the corporate nature of our current election process is a new animal indeed. I honestly believe that the Republicans have an overall plan to dump all entitlement programs (social security, etc) and reward only the rich.
That said, he has done a hell of a lot more, as you way, than what gets credited to him.

Oh snorer,
The bulk of what you mention are bush's leftovers and a laundry list of GOP talking points. The above list is based on facts.
jinjalady,
I am highly complimented!
Thy are too busy trumpeting the poll-driven demise of the Democratic party.
The HMO stimulus package had nothing to do with Bush. If no one even introdeces single payer or public options how can anyone call it a victory for anyone but CIGNA, who will have people forced to buy insurance from companies like them? The war and economy are leftovers. But shovelling trillions to his biggest contributers like Goldman Sachs, appointing lobbyists left and right, while we sit back and wonder why banking is the only industry doing well? Was there a point to Tarp or the recovery act other than paying back Wall Street contributers? Because the rest of America has yet to see any jobs.
Snorer,
You need to think about forward or backward.
For instance, Obamacare is not perfect. There is no way in reality that it could have been. The fact that it is there finally is a chance, a chance to change. If it did not exist, then we would be stuck with the same old game which was all stacked against the patient. IS that what you wanted--all or nothing?
In Oregon, the public option is not dead. After the election, I will blog on this. Our legislators are really good at innovative thinking and we have the Oregon Health Plan experience and a tradition of concensus.
Seeking concensus is the political process.
Oh, and Snorer,
This just in from MSNBC:
"Calculations by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office and other independent fiscal experts show that the $1.1 trillion cost over the next 10 years of the Medicare prescription drug program, which the Republican-controlled Congress adopted in 2003, by itself would add more to the deficit than the combined costs of the bailout, the stimulus and the health care law."
oops!
"And here's Bloomberg: The TARP bailout "provided taxpayers with higher returns than they could have made buying 30-year Treasury bonds -- enough money to fund the Securities and Exchange Commission for the next two decades. The government has earned $25.2 billion on its investment of $309 billion in banks and insurance companies, an 8.2 percent return over two years."
Looks like a good move.
Sheesh!! The Man damn near IS walking on water.

Good post!!

^R^
skypixio,
For a bird, I sure attract some nice cat friends!!!
Yeah, too bad it just me posting this and not MSNBC or CNN or anybody who has more exposure...
Oh, and he escalated the war in Afghanistan and increased attacks into Pakistan, killing civilians and making more enemies for us along the way. Also, he issued an order to assassinate a US citizen, possibly a first that one, and his AG has made it clear that the federal government will enforce its drug laws in California even if voters there decide they want Marijuana legalized.

No, he's not a do-nothing president. Not at all.

P.S.: I wouldn't put much stock in those CBO numbers either.
@Rob,

I must have missed the part where someone said he was perfect.

Why do you ONLY mention a few negatives yet say nothing about the positives?

Sheesh! I swear, if the Man walked on water across the Hudson, you'd report that he couldn't swim. (cribbed from: Lyndon Johnson)
Rob,
It is not just the CBO which has reported numbers on the TARP and Bush's non-negotiable prescription plan. (I thought negotiation was part of a "free market" but I guess not.)
Obama is not perfect, but he is light-years better than that shmoo McCain who changes into anything at all to get re-elected.
This post is to publicize what Obama has been able to accomplish since the MSM has not chosen to do so.
Mainly because I do not consider war and empire "ONLY a few negatives." Even if war doesn't trouble you so much, peace doesn't rate high on your list of "progressive" causes, it affects everything else. The country is going broke; that is a fact. You will not have "free" health care and all those other liberal comforts so long as our government thinks a quasi world-empire necessary.

No, Obama is not perfect. (And Bush is no free-marketer either; crony capitalism in no way equates to a free market.) No president will likely ever be perfect. But we could do much better.
he's done a lot, he's delivered real progress in the face of a dysfunctional Senate and a deliberately obstructive opposition, no question that he's the most progressive president since LBJ and has a strong record of accomplishment . . .

but . . .

on issues of unchecked presidential power, secrecy in the name of dubious national security, warrantless government spying, emasculation of judicial review, human rights abuses foreign and domestic, quashing whistle-blowers, legal accountability for crimes committed by governmental officials

on all these issues he's taken the Bush/Cheney doctrines beyond even where the last administration dared to go, and they were the most abusive in the history of the republic

I'll be voting Democratic this fall and urging anyone who'll listen to do the same, after all, voting in Democrats doesn't guarantee good government, but voting in Republicans guarantees bad government, but damn it'd be nice to see unapologetic progressive leadership, respect for justice and the rule of law, and a real defense of the working middle class against the banks and corporations just once more before I die
Hi Rob,
I did not mean to imply that bush was a free marketeer--none of the corporate elite are. (Where is that sarcasm font?)
Peace is worthy. Empire is wrong. Gotcha.
In the meantime, how do we act to reach that goal in a realistic manner?
Obama inherited the wars and all that implies. We had no business besides oil in Iraq. The Afghan war was different or could have been had bushies believed in planning. Pakistan is the center--Islamic sanctuary with nuclear capabilities. I have no answer for that one.
However, I respect the president and trust him to do what he thinks is best for the U.S. And you do not.
Impass.
Well done. I stand with my president. I support him and I will give him every benefit of any doubt and immeasurable understanding. It is almost like a battle between good and evil out there, what am I saying...it is!
Roy,

That is the "not perfect" part. and...

"I'll be voting Democratic this fall and urging anyone who'll listen to do the same, after all, voting in Democrats doesn't guarantee good government, but voting in Republicans guarantees bad government, but damn it'd be nice to see unapologetic progressive leadership, respect for justice and the rule of law, and a real defense of the working middle class against the banks and corporations just once more before I die."

I can so relate to that. I guess when I look at my country, at the damage to the electorate that the Republican disinvestment in education has wrought, I doubt that it will ever come. They killed Bobby Kennedy who might have been the one.

One can only say that Obama is trying and fording a river of shit that the Republicans left in place. I agree with you that a Democratic vote is needed to at least have a chance at good governance. But the people need to be more involved in civic discourse and civic education in order for a democracy to work and we expect our presidents to do it for us.

Sheila,
Yeah, it is good to have a man in the white house that we can respect.
There are those who look at the record of what he has done since taking over that stinking quagmire he inherited and say, "Amazing! I didn't think he'd ever get sop much done!"

And then there are those who go all pouty and say, "Well he might have given you softies a lot of what you want but he didn't give ME what I want!" (*snif, sniff, snivel, snivel, pout*)

Have you pouters ever heard the phrase, "Rome wasn't built in a day"?

Oh and just who, pray tell, would you suggest, would have done more or done it better?
skypixieo,
I LOVE you!
You have that right. And I think that the corporate MSM is using that progressive tendency to talk them into not voting out of pique. Honestly, it is like herding cats...
skypixie0 wrote: "Well he might have given you softies a lot of what you want but he didn't give ME what I want!" (*snif, sniff, snivel, snivel, pout*)

Dude, if you want to call my insistence that the President of the United States fight for my rights to be be allowed the exact same rights as a straight, white, man person "pouting" and "sniveling" then I'd challenge you to spend a day in my shoes. Been spit at or called a "fucking homo" or "dumb cunt" lately, BTW???

As for your quote about Rome, I'll respond with another quote:

"A right delayed is a right denied."
-- Martin Luther King, Jr.
Here's the important point I take out of your post: the conservatives are way better at manipulating the press than the left is. And the manipulators control the talking points.
Back in the sixties, Martin Luther King Jr. was reviled as a moderate by those who were more militant. That did not make him wrong. That did not make him ineffective. And it did not make him safe from being murdered.
A unilateral move by Obama would not be politically wise. He is committed to LGBT rights but wants to move forward with a concensus in order to get the maximum support for the best chance for success.
There is a place for militancy and moderation at the same table.
I didn't vote for Obama, but I think he is doing a fine job. I wasn't aware that he eliminated tax credits for outsourcing of our jobs. How long will it take for that to have some effect? I've been hit several times myself by outrageous banking fees when I unknowingly exceeded my account balance while using my debit card on vacation. I could kiss him for that one! I am a little uneasy about healthcare reform because we have good medical insurance for me, my husband, and daughter for about $400 a month. On the other hand, the premiums keep going up and the copay and deductibles keep going up. S
Cranky cuss,
Hi guy!
"the conservatives are way better at manipulating the press than the left is. And the manipulators control the talking points."
I would add that Progressives are more vulnerable to being manipulated by the press. I think the whole thrust is to keep us home on Election Day.

Donna,
So glad to see you.
There are so many small things that he has done for the middle class and kids and the working poor that go unnoticed lie the benefits that you noted from this list.
Know what you mean about the insurance; however, I believe it will remain the same for you. I know it helps me as our kid is in college and I have appointments set up for her in January when she gets covered. No way can she or us afford a private pay.
I just believe that he has our interests at heart and that the corporate tea baggers do not.
@Amy,
Good points. Well taken.

Please keep in mind that YOUR needs are not the be-all and end-all of the work piled up on his table. And unless you know of some way the president can stop the shit-for-brains crowd from being unconscionable idiots, I wonder just exactly where you expect him to do.

Whether or not anything can be done to bring some people into the 21st century, it is for damn sure that it would be nice for you to still have a country to live in. The Man has to set priorities. Perhaps you'd set different ones, but then you are not sitting in his seat. And unless you can read his mind, you do not know what he has in it in regard to how you, and so many others, are treated and what he can do about it.

He is a president - not a king or an emperor. He cannot just "issue orders" that all must obey. He must, by the laws of the US, follow certain procedures. This can take time.

Until then all I can do is offer you an invitation to come on up to Canada where we have equality laws in place - even if we do still have a few dinosaurs walking the streets at times.
Thank you this/ You deserve a medal for this, and a phone call from the President!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. I've been telling these knotheads around here the same thing, but didn't have it all put together. I didn't even know a lot of these. I'm going to print this out and show it to some of these idiots. I bet they throw it in the trash because it puts Obama in a good light, but at least I tried.
WoooooWhoooooo!!!! JUST what I said! Hey, let's go to the Daily Show demonstration on the Capital Mall! Something about Restoring Sanity???
Tom, I blush! He is actually going to touch down on Oregon land in about 35 minutes.

Scanner,
You are welcome, welcome, welcome.
I fixed the link on the quote which takes you to a page where Dr Watson asks folks to pass this along to others who do not know. As you can see, OS editors are right on the bandwagon...

Cberg,
Gotta good feeling about this!
Thanks for this! I'm sending a link to my liberal friends.
Great post. I read that Pres Obama has been one of the most prolific and efficient presidents ever. And Speaker Pelosi has led the House to pass countless bills that the Senate has simply ignored (or more acurately the Repugs have filibustered)! I wish people would look at the big picture and would stop lazily believing whatever they hear, which is usually lies or half-truths.
Thanks, geezerchick! Dr Watson wants the word out.

The Wright Sight,
I don't know. Some folks cannot even read their own checks to figure out that their taxes went down. If they deny the truth in front of them..?
But we must hope.
Kathy,
That is sweet and short and needed.
Thank you.
Wow! Great compilation. I'm bookmarking this. I keep reminding those who are disappointed in Obama. He inherited the worst state of affairs on any incoming President in memory. A major recession teetering on a depression, two costly and futile wars, and a staggering budget deficit. Plus a dismal health care system, if you can even call it that, and utter inaction on global warming. Now imagine how thing would be had McCain been elected. Most of your points would not be there and for sure there would have been two more right-wingers of the Supreme Court.

Many thanks for the work in putting together this list.
Abrawing,
Thanks. The list is great because of the source--Dr Robert Watson, poli sci professor of Lynn University. A simple one really. I had even forgotten some of the early things Obama had done.
I hope Obama did not expect thanks or kudos because he certainly has gotten none from the media.
Let me say what I like about your post before getting to where I disagree. You are absolutely right that the media has not given Obama nearly enough credit for the positive things he's done. They've instead focused almost exclusively on the criticism--mostly from the right--and thereby helped to foster the perception that he's either a radical socialist or a complete establishment tool.

That said, I am bothered when good people on the liberal side of the spectrum spend so much time arguing against fellow liberals who are disappointed with our leadership. We're not the ones you need to convince--most of us are going to vote Democratic anyway. That doesn't mean we're wrong to criticize Obama or point out where we think he's been grossly wrong, such as Snoreville's points about him caring more about the Wall Street economy than keeping average people in their homes, or Rob Mars's points about expanding the American Empire and authorizing the execution of American citizens without trial--something UNFORGIVABLE no matter who is president because it undermines THE CORE PRINCIPLE this country was founded on.

People NEED to be making these points, otherwise Obama wouldn't be hearing them and there would be no chance whatsoever of him changing course.

Finally, I just have to point out that you could produce a long list like this for any president. Most of these "accomplishments" are things any Democratic president would have done with the stroke of a pen (and that will be un-done as soon as the next Republican steps it). A lot of these things look great as a bullet-point in a long list, but if you look more closely you'll often find that many of these initiatives could have gone a lot farther but were instead the result of un-necessary compromise and concessions to either the Republican Party or the Big Money interests who own them.

Unless and until Obama stops trying to cater to both sides and find the middle ground between the Middle Class and the powerful interests who are quite deliberately strangling it to death, liberals are quite justified in criticizing him (as long as we remember that the alternative is FAR WORSE and we don't stay home on Election Day).
Great Blog! Right on, exactly, You tell'em all Steph, etc.
One blue cat for Obama.
Best Wishes,
Blittie
"In the meantime, how do we act to reach that goal in a realistic manner?"

For starters, stop putting political loyalties above everything else. In other words, stop playing the politics game and instead act in ways better suited to effect positive change in the world outside of politics. Do you really think it's so simple as "Democrats good, Republicans evil?" I seldom if ever see Democrats making speeches on the House floor like this one: http://tinyurl.com/ap9l4n.

The military-industrial complex is the most powerful force, political or economic, in this country; and make no mistake, it won't go away without a fight. Two things have to happen first: a) make its elimination the number one priority; b) build a coalition of progressives, traditionalist conservatives, and libertarians powerful enough to fight it. Put simply, work together to eliminate the biggest problem, the obstacle to fixing all others, that this country has.

No, I don't blindly trust this president. Nor have I blindly trusted any of his predecessors. History gives me no reason to place especial trust in politicians; in fact, it does quite the opposite.
Fantastic post! Too bad that most of this info is buried under the tea party rubble.
Kemstone,
I am always happy when a post of mine attracts your comments. You are one smart dude. Having said that...
I do disagree with your point that any president could have racked up these accomplishments. For instance, the addition of LGBT folks to the Hate Crimes Act languished for a full decade.I also disagree that these can be undone easily. The Health Care Act is not an easy one to undo. The addition to the Supreme Court of two more women is not one that can be undone.
These are not small accomplishments.
These points impact individual American lives. For me, it means that my college-student daughter will get medical and dental care after January. For one commentor, Donna T, she will not be gouged by the credit card company:

"I didn't vote for Obama, but I think he is doing a fine job. I wasn't aware that he eliminated tax credits for outsourcing of our jobs. How long will it take for that to have some effect? I've been hit several times myself by outrageous banking fees when I unknowingly exceeded my account balance while using my debit card on vacation. I could kiss him for that one!"

Donna has a right to know that and will not be informed by either the MSM or a long considered and intelligent post where that vital information which affects her life is buried.

Kemstone, you wonder why fellow Progressives criticize those Progressives who criticize Obama. You have the right, of course, and he is an imperfect man. However, these critiques feed the MSM national narrative that Progressives are disappointed in Obama which, in public parlance, mean that they do not support his Presidency. Your honest critique is repackaged by the MSM to feed the negative political machine which we see today.
In my sixth decade, I have come to view the republicans as the embodiment of opposition to most of my values. Evil? Often, I think so. Are the Democrats angels? No, but I choose them over what I know of Repubs.
Thanks so much for commenting, Kemstone.
thank-you o'stephanie. I really appreciate you putting this together.

bravo.
Blittie,
You sweet kittie! Hope your little legs are all better by tonight!

Roger,
"buried under the tea party rubble".
Dirty Laundry (Eagles) does sell eyes. We lost a free press when the networks threw their news bureaus into the ratings game.

Rob,
Thanks for staying engaged.
Keyword is "realistically". The idea of a third party is wonderful but unrealizable in our nation in which civic engagement does not hinge on civic education. Hence, we have tea partiers who oppose Obama as unconstitutional without having read or understood the document.
Thomas Paine sparked our revolution with his pamphlet "common sense". By the time he returned from England and France, he declared that our revolution had been sold out to wealthy men. This has been a long process. It is not just the M-I complex but wealth as represented by David Koch, whose name I see on PBS shows now. We are now seeing the thinly veiled "invisible hand" and it means to choke us.
I remain stuck in the two party system as the reality we deal with. As such, I generally vote a straight Democratic ticket.
Dolores flores,
I only found the list and posted on it.
Hope it goes around the blogosphere...
I just noticed that I have 28 facebook recommendations with 29 thumbs up.
I am glad that folks find this worthy of spreading around. And Dr Watson would be pleased.
Thanks everyone!
I second what Barry said. Also, I posted this to my Facebook page and now my family is posting it to their pages. Let's hope it does some more good!
Thanks, Suzanne!
I have never had 44 facebook hits before. When I google "Obama's Accomplishments" and 244, I can see that this news is spreading everywhere, and I wind up on the fifth page. Not bad for a starling fledgling!
(Am beginning to follow the Daily Kos SEO program, except I am concentrating on the Oregon governor's race first.)
O'Stephanie, thank you a million times for this outstanding post. I have grown so weary of hearing the negatives...even though many of them may be well-founded. I just feel it a little unfair that we never hear anything at all about what has been accomplished. You aced it!
Fay,
Thanks so much for linking to this post.
Reminds me of "Bread and Roses" as the women march (virtually) from the kitchen to the streets!
I linked to your post also; we are a one two punch!
(The story is going viral...)
Brava! And thank you!

I'm definitely going to vote. I understand what's at stake this year.

rated!
Thanks, Shiral,
You are always so positive and upbeat!
I think we Progressives are going to surprise them all this year. I just hope that there is enough time for everyone to understand that Obama is not a failure and also that the Big Fat Cats are trying to buy the entire nation out with their TV ads.
No. They. Can't.
Tommy T,
You have cut and pasted the same lengthy canned comment here three times. It is long enough to be a post of your own, so go ahead and post it. Go ahead and criticize me in it. But do it on your blog, not mine.
I will not host your invective.
This is my blog, use your own.
(I will not open any PMs either, so do not bother.)
Steph, I totally love you. XOXO
Thanks you, Lisa. I needed a little sugar. ::hugs::
Thanks for putting this together, Steph. As I've mentioned elsewhere, I'm disappointed at his inability to bridge the divide--even as I agree it's largely because of an uglier opposition than anticipated--and at his continuation of the Bush foreign policy and then some--like Roy I'll be voting to keep the Repubs out.
Excellent update O. I stand with you and Obama all the way. I'm proud of my vote in 2008, would do it again in a heartbeat. I will vote for my Democrats on Nov 2 and will support my President again in 2012. Some may call it blind faith. I call it looking at the big picture. He is not perfect -- NONE OF US ARE. You don't walk into the Oval Office and automatically KNOW how to run an entire country. It definitely takes on the job training and despite the obstinence of the Repugnants and the cowardice of many in his own party he has still accomplished A GREAT DEAL. And Nancy Pelosi who doesn't get nearly the credit or respect that she deserves has helped him get it done.
Lainey,
Thanks for coming by. What is scary to me is why he might have to continue some of these policies. What does a person find out when they get in office?

Wright Sight,
Thanks for coming by, guy.
I agree that Pelosi does not get credit and a ton of crap. She is staying positive.
