Given that I am significantly overweight (this is my euphemism for obese), I was hoping that food would basically suck in China. No luck.
Tuesday, midway through our apartment-hunting marathon, we had lunch at a terrific and unique restaurant. Our housing agent, Maria, took us there, helped us order and then left us to discuss our morning. Had she abandoned us at the door, I don't think we would have ever figured out the system.
First we were seated and ordered tea. Then we were taken down an elaborate staircase to a room where the ingredients of dishes were displayed on long tables. Maria tried to help us determine how dishes would be prepared, but the translations we got were pretty vague.

We ordered cabbage with shrimp, a mysterious green vegetable, and a mushroom soup. We had no clue how any of them would be prepared.
All of them were freakin' awesome. The cabbage and shrimp were cooked with peppers, the vegetable with garlic, and the mushroom soup with a perfect chicken stock. My weight loss plan has been ruined.
