Owl_Says_Who
- Bio
- I'm sure details will emerge as I write, but how does one encapsulate one's life in words? I consider myself a Michigan native, now misplaced in the southern MidWest. Friends and family have called me a story teller, which is possible. To anyone who reads my work, though, I offer this caution from Isabel Allende, as she describes herself: “If you ask me to tell you my life, I will try; but it will probably be a bag of lies, because I am inventing myself all the time. And at the same time, I am inventing fiction, and through this fiction, I am revealing myself.”

My Gay Pride
What I haven't written about is pride.
Specifically, I haven't written about "gay pride."
Last week, I read a post by Constant Calliope, I'm Not All That Proud, Really, and although I saw her point, it bummed me out.
This week, I read some stuff that made me smile… Read full post »
(Almost) Left Behind. Reposted. Updated. Now with Epilogue.
The morning breeze trickled in through my window, lake-scented. Drowsing beneath the cool worn sheet, a light waft of bleach and sunlight tickled my nostrils. I dozed with one ear open, stretching to savor every sense . . . 10 years old, a rare summer morning, undisturbed. I i/… Read full post »
Funerals and Family Values - A Letter
Dear Dad,
First, let me say that, out of love and respect, I won’t be sending this letter to you. I recognize that what I need to say comes directly out of my own issues, and that it really has no bearing on what did, or did not, happen/… Read full post »

Owl Goes to School - A Repost
I just realized that I've been on OS almost a year. This is a re-post from March 30, 2009. It sort of fit scanner's open call, so I thought I'd recycle . . . I linked a couple of things that were in context for what I was writing about at the time… Read full post »
Owl's Drawing - Algis' Fortune Telling
You may have seen the post by Algis Kemezys called Fortune Telling with your ART. It sounds simple enough: use each of the following in a spontaneous drawing - circle, square, triangle, the letter "S". In the drawing, use one of those twice.
After seeing what he'd said in resp… Read full post »
Dear Owl at Seventeen (Open Call: Letter to Me)
Dear Owl,
I trust you to be open-minded enough to take this letter for what it’s worth, a bit of foreknowledge from your future self. It’s one of the things I like about you, frankly – your willingness to listen and learn. For what it’s worth, I don’t t/… Read full post »

I awaken to red sky
Quills protruding through my skin

Dear Mom, A Thank You Note
Dear Mom,
I don't know how to thank you for the belated Christmas box that arrived yesterday. Really. I don't know how to thank you.
I don't usually write Thank You Notes, even though I know they are much appreciated; that's no failing on your part, I just haven't disciplined myself… Read full post »
For the Children of Haiti
Hi folks.
Normally, I do things like this via PM. But I'm making an exception for this venture.
It's not that I know the author, it's that I think - "what could it hurt?"

It All Adds Up
It's been a long, strange day. So far, it's been an interesting life.

It is an old metaphor, the shattered mirror,
this mirror we shared/shard/shredded.

We carefully sweep (what to keep, what to leave?)
We cobble together a larger frame (will it fit us both, including… Read full post »

Remembering the Edmund Fitzgerald
Dark clouds brooded above us as we waited for the bus, squeezing into the little porch of the Methodist church to avoid a strangely slashing wind punctuated with random spittle from the sky. An Attitude of Gratitude
To say I’ve had a fucked up summer seems a bit of an understatement. If I were writing fiction, an editor would redline the sequence of events as over the top. Here’s the rundown:
