Owl_Says_Who
Bio
I'm sure details will emerge as I write, but how does one encapsulate one's life in words? I consider myself a Michigan native, now misplaced in the southern MidWest. Friends and family have called me a story teller, which is possible. To anyone who reads my work, though, I offer this caution from Isabel Allende, as she describes herself: “If you ask me to tell you my life, I will try; but it will probably be a bag of lies, because I am inventing myself all the time. And at the same time, I am inventing fiction, and through this fiction, I am revealing myself.”

Open Call: FIRSTS! (Updated for Tattoo)

Rate: 36 Flag

1. Who was your FIRST prom date?

Never did the prom thang.

2. Who was your FIRST love and do you still talk with him/her?

Probably Stacy, though I wouldn't have admitted it at the time.  Last time I talked to her, it was extremely strained due to religious and related historic "issues."

3. What was your FIRST alcoholic drink?

Beer or martini - sips of my dad's.  Still enjoy a good beer.

4. What was your FIRST job?

Mowing lawns/babysitting.  First "real" job was clerk at a gift shop.

5. What was your FIRST car?

The first one I owned was a '73 Buick Centurion.

6. Who was the FIRST person to text you today?

My phone is currently not receiving texts, much to my wife's chagrin.

7. Who is the FIRST person you thought of this morning?

Sadly, it was me - as in "oh shit, I'd better get moving!"  Then, my wife, Raven.

8. Who was your FIRST grade teacher?

Mrs. Vermeersh.  She had no idea what to do with a kid who wanted the class to pray for a cat named Fuzzy - I was that kid, of course.

9. When and where did you go on your FIRST ride on an airplane?

I'm told it was when I was less than a year old, from Cincinnati to somewhere in Virginia.  Apparently, the pilot held me while Mom gathered our things, and I peed all over his nice uniform.

10. Who was your FIRST best friend & do you still talk?

Stacy.  See #2, FIRST love.

11. Where was your FIRST sleepover?

Nikki's house.  I didn't make it through the whole night there, though.

12. Who was the FIRST person you talked to today?

The receptionist at work.

13. Whose wedding were you in the FIRST time?

My Uncle Bryan's.  I was the flower girl, and said very loudly that the bride's dress was waaaaay too big for her (it was the train).

14. What was the FIRST thing you did this morning?

Prayed - I've got a few balls in the air right now, including my own metaphorical ones.

15. What was the FIRST concert you ever went to?

The Police.

16. FIRST tattoo?

Phoenix/Thunderbird over my heart - Raven and I are both Sagitarrians, so I had our "moon" signs placed under the wings.

My First Tattoo

Updated per 'dicea's request.  In retrospect, I should have asked for a tattoo artist with more than 6 weeks experience.

17. FIRST piercing?

Ears, age 16 in the high school locker room.  Thinking about re-piercing my nose, though.

18. FIRST foreign country you've been to?

Spain.

19. FIRST movie you remember seeing in the theater?

Bambi.  I freaked the hell out when Bambi's mother was killed, and had nightmares for weeks.  God, I was a wierd kid.

20. FIRST Detention you had?

8th grade for tardies.  Actually, I think all my detentions were for tardiness.

21. What was the FIRST state you lived in?

Ohio.

22. If you had three wishes, what would the FIRST one be?

Stop the violins for whirled peas.  Okay, smart assery aside, I don't know - for humanity to have clear vision in seeing each other simply as humans, just people, more alike than unalike.

23. What is the FIRST thing you would learn if you had the chance?

Gentle self-discipline.

_______________

Okay - that was really fun!  I'll try to come back when I can, but today is becoming wierder than I thought, and the weekend may be yet wierder - mostly in good ways, though, no worries!

I meant to give credit to Leandra Nolting for starting this meme on OS!
Owl
interesting firsts. my therapist's mind is in analyzing mode. rAted!
Here's hoping those balls in the air work out.
Mr. M. - Feel free to PM me the results of the analysis, I'm always curious about what I'm accidentally putting out there!
ocular - Thanks man - I'm actually feeling pretty damn good about where things are heading, even though I don't have firm, fixed answers yet!
That is SO cool! :P

Rated for fun!
#14 - DA-YUM! Hope those metaphorical balls come down gently.
Much fun and rated!
LadyMiko & Zumalicious - Thanks, Ladies!

Bill S. - They will be well protected, I promise.
I thought ALL kids freaked out when Bambi's mom got killed. You weren't weird. You were NORMAL.

Wait, that's even worse, isn't it?

:-)
Very fun Owler! A good way to start the weekend. Hope yours will be a good one. Sending you positive energy and openness.
too fun! And I cried like hell watching Bambi! I'm with Verbal. That's being normal!
Thank you for this, Owl.

Pictures, or the tat doesn't count.
I hope you have a delicious weekend and get to spend lots of quality time with your wife!
Without scrolling all the way down the comments, I assumed we had to do these firsts in this box.

I was about to break the record for longest comment on OS!

So I assume we should be putting these in our own forums eh? :S
Enjoyed reading your 'first' list. Loved the answers for 22 and 23..
Owl.. I like your ad-libbing first... you paint a vivid picture to each response. A good friend had a '71 Buick Centurion - light blue & white convertible top... we had a blast in that car.
glad that it's only gonna be a weird weekend in good ways-
fun read Owl :) Thanks for it!
Hey, Owl. The Police was my first concert, too:)
Verbal - love the new avatar! Very sexy/cool. How strange to think that was normal, but perhaps it is. Now I'll have to make peace with that.

spotted_mind - Thanks - now updated with a bad picture!

ladyfarmerjed - Likewise - wishing everyone an excellent weekend.

Steve - Just trying to figure out a way to make the world a better place through wishes.

Fab - Have you done your firsts yet?

'dicea - Done!

Gwen - Who knows . . . could happen! Certainly like the sound of it. Maybe that should have been my first wish.

Manchu - Commenter's choice - I'll be sure to read either way.

fireeyes - Thanks, Lady!

gmgaston - LOL - I'm just in a smart assy mood today, and weren't those boat-cars fun?

h-Julie - Always glad to see you, and well, weird good always beats weird bad, in my book.

AtHomePilgrm - ;~)
dharma - I miss them. Sting is pretty okay, but The Police . . . man, nothing like them!
Tattoo you! very nice
BTW - I have to say that your banner is my favorite on OS!
You're making fun of the Pink Rabbit, while you were driving around in a Pimp Mobile? LMAO.

And, I would have said Bambi, but I blocked it out. What a horrifying movie going experience for a small child....xox
i loved #13 - this was great
Cool firsts. So sorry about Fuzzy.
Great stuff. You do not sound weird at all to me. I like that you prayed for a cat in first grade and I loved your teacher's name!
And the tattoo....yeah darlin'....xox
Beth - Thanks, on both counts!

Robin - Hell yes, Pimpmobile I got from my Grandma! Good blocking.

Y Heron - It's now family legend.

Hells Bells - I was too, but probably not as sorry as the teacher was to hear about it.

cartouche - Maybe I just felt weird all the time. I think she married a dutchman.

Gotta roll now, peeps - will be back later to party, if all goes well!
This was so fun to read. Glad to learn about my pal, the OWL....
Bambi broke my heart too...
I answered the questions. I hope people can figure out which ones are true and which ones belong on a Bob Hope 1974 All American Collegiate Special with Barbara Edan, Lola Falona, and Benny Goodman's Band of Renown.
SWEET INK! Woooo!
Interesting list. I must admit that, with every post, a little more of Owl seems to take shape from the mist. You are always an interesting read.
Dr. Spud - Aww, shucks - I'm honored!

iamsurly - With the Bambi thing - turns out that's normal . . . who knew?

LuisG - Good thing you answered the questions, and so entertainingly.

LadyMiko - It looked better when it was fresh, but its significance for me hasn't changed.

Jeff - Thanks, Jeff . . . that means a lot coming from you.
I ran an in home day care for pre-schoolers for 13 years. Older sibs joined us after school. My favorites were the spirited, off-plumb, kinda' "weird" ones. I would have enjoyed you immensely!
--rated--
Should have know you were a fellow sag. Sometimes I think we are the only ones who can understand (and put up with) each other. These little memes have turned out to be more revealing than I figured. (Notice all the pink in Sneeds answers?) Thanks for sharing a little bit more of yourself with us. But don't keep those balls in the air too long nothing fun about sore balls figuratively or literally.
Mothership - Aww, thanks. My pre-school experience would have been sooooo different, and I'm sure I would have adored you!
Tijo - Yeah, we Sagittarians are, well, kind of our own thing, which I love, but yeah, I think most of the other signs thinks we're a little . . . out there. And as for the balls - juggling is only fun for so long!
Very wise comments! Hope he heard you and you get what you want with those balls.
I love Sting! I've seen him in concert 4 times!
Just Pamela - Me too! We just had another long conversation this morning about a few things . . .
MAWB - Isn't he cool? My dad is a jazz pianist, and I love the way Sting riffs into jazz. The Police, to me, though, were the best - for a 3-piece group, they could pull off nearly anything, and Stuart Copeland . . . don't get me started!
That was fun and interesting.

"I was the flower girl, and said very loudly that the bride's dress was waaaaay too big for her (it was the train)." Very cute.
Suzn - I think Mom thought it was cute in retrospect, but embarrassing when it occurred!
We share more than just Michigan -- Spain!!
OMG! I was completely traumatized by Bambi! What WERE they thinking? Fuck Mr. Disney! Ha ha ha.

Well...the weekend's almost over and here's hoping you survived in one piece.

Great firsts, girl. And I'm right there with you on #23.
These were wonderful...Sting, and whirled peas...laughing.

Everytime I hear of someone contemplating piercing their nose I think of having a cold and not knowing where to put the kleenex ;)
Maria - Very cool - we'll always have Spain!

gracielou - Yeah, the Bambi thing . . . weekend ended up less wierd than expected, and 90% good.

Buffy - I can understand the confusion about nose piercing, but Ihad it pierced for about a year, and had no problems. I actually pierced it myself, since this was before everyone was doing it . . .
Enjoyed and rated, Owl. Your #22 reminds me of the meaning of Namaste.
Cindy Ross - Thanks - I like to think that I'm living towards namaste . . . that is the concept through which I want to see things.
Fun one, Owl! and as always, I love learning more about you. :-)
Mama Lou - Likewise, I'm sure - I have enjoyed every piece you've written, including the most current. Glad to see you back at OS!
Nice one! Did you rush out just for these firsts? I wonder if a henna version is the best way to start. My kids said, "Dad don't be a wimp", or some word like it. You went for it!
patrick - I was just glad to be able to write something that didn't tax my brain! Henna is a great way to start - semi-permanence gives you a chance to decide if you like it - try before you buy, so to speak!
Love the tattoo. I can't tell from the pic, but if you want the colors brightened or the edges sharpened, you might be able to get a tattoo artist to do that for you. I love that you and Raven have matching tattoos.
Gwen - Actually, Raven has a tat in the same place, but it's totally different. Long story about that, actually - hers has my initials. I wasn't quite so bold. And I definitely want my tat touched up - by an artist with some experience and skill, this time!
Owlie, good list. Pleasure to know more about you. I think 23 is something we can all aspire to learn. Ok, well at least me too. Namaste
Betty - You know it's all just part of the wheel turning, right? We're ALL learning and aspiring. Heartfelt namaste to you as well.
