Happy Spring! It was one year ago in March that I discovered Open Salon. What a find! It is the right place to be. This is a community of talented, artistic, and generous writers. I have written 25 blogs this year. I have been a writer of poetry and prose for forty years. I've published poems, essays and stories in a myriad of small presses. But never have I had the instant gratification one gets from pushing a button, and voila! your blog is up and running, with feedback from readers. I love the feedback from readers!
I have read a lot of great blogs on OS, and made "friends." While I have written on a wide variety of topics, my first blog, "Overwhelmed" was about how I turn to nature, seeking a tranquil place for my soul amidst all the "noise." This blog brings me full circle. If you want to find respite and nourishment for your soul, go to The Orchid Show at The New York Botanical Gardens (there until April 22nd).
I have been going to The Orchid Show for several years now, but never have I been so enthralled. Orchids are amazing. They are alive, watching us as we watch them. They are witty, and sensual. They will restore you from whatever you need to escape.
How elegantly they wrap their arms around a tree.
I breathed in the silence and listened to what the orchids had to tell me. They have eyes in their heads and wisdom beyond beauty.
They hang like jewels on the neck of a queen.
They are bright as the sun or subtle as a tear drop.
Just when you think you've seen it all, a special one pops up and grabs your attention.
They possess a hidden mystery that Georgia O'Keefe understood.
There is a special healing power possessed in nature: trees, water, rocks, and flowers. Don't let the distractions of this busy, and sometimes cruel world take you away from these treasures. Orchids are jewels, descended from heaven.
