So I got an e-mail notification today of a message received at my OS blog "mymessage" area from someone called "newlove1." Hey, I can always use some "New Love!" But, zut alors, there is no such message! Outrage! This must be a NEW kind of spam, I think, intercepts from people who are non-existent on OS.
Au contraire, "newlove1" has a blog on OS - just no posts, no comments, no links, and only the default Zerry and Joan as friends. Not to say they aren't the absolutlely the bestest of friends! But somehow, I suspect that "newlove1"has been harvesting e-mail addresses - somehow, again, for mine does not appear visibly on my blog.
Is this not a reportable violation? And how did "newlove1" do it anyway? Zillion mile bandwidth ain't cheap.

And as Tarun says - the Nigerians are after us here too? Do I have long lost but dead relatives, or people in high political office, who think they can trust me with millions of dollars, waiting to heap spam on me?
I guess they can "harvest" our OS IDs from comments or blog posts we make and then send their mail messages to them. And thus on to our private e-mail boxes if we have signed up for notification. It just seems like a lot of work for little return. Most of us in OS aren't exactly newbies to these tactics, after all.
