My Thoughts...

Help With Student Loans Has Arrived!

Rate: 7 Flag

Maybe this doesn't affect most of you, but I am excited for my daughter and others who are drowning in their student loans. The cost to attend college and universities has skyrocketed to unreasonable heights that go way beyond the cost of living considerations, inflation, people's salaries etc. Not only that, college graduates can't even find decent jobs in most fields because they are nonexistent. Oh yes, there are still the handful of occupations that have jobs to offer....but not everyone desires to be or can be a doctor, engineer, or an accountant. My daughter is an artist and possesses the talent and ability to create inspiring art. After she received her undergraduate degree in Fine Arts, she found out that companies and corporations don't have a need for Fine Artists. So, she borrowed some more money to go back to college to complete a Graphics Art degree which she is hoping will be more marketable. I can't help but wonder how many opportunities there are in that  field.....I've heard there is an over abundant number of graphic artists looking for jobs. Meanwhile, Susan's loans are starting to hit and once they are all due, she will owe around $1,700 a month! You can do the  math. Even if she finds that graphic arts job, how will she afford that kind of repayment along with her other necessary monthly obligations on a graphic arts salary?

When President Obama was running for the office, one of his issues he wanted to change and improve was the student loan situation. Thankfully, he was able to follow through....

Also, for those of you who may need a graphic artist, or just someone to paint a picture for you, please take a look at my daughter's website: www.susankissinger.com

Thank you.

I know there will be those who will be negative about this relief....but honestly....something has to be done about the ridiculous price tags on our higher education. If there were enough decent jobs to obtain without a college education...but there aren't. Working minimum wage jobs will NOT pay the bills.
I've often thought that a better "bail out" would have been to forgive student loans. The money could have gone into the economy rather than be given to banks to squander.
The burden of student loans is a misery to anybody who wasn't lucky enough to be born upper-middle-class (or higher) with generous parental units.

The rest of us are totally screwed.

However, as my Ex and I used to joke--unlike a car loan, they can't exactly send a repo man after your education when you default. ;-)
P.S. I almost didn't click into this because of the headline, which sounds like the spam headlines we're seeing more often around here. Might consider changing?
My son is in graduate school; he's working on a master's in classical trumpet performance. I understand! rAted!
No Verbal they can't repossess the education, but they can and do make transcripts and diplomas impossible to get. When queried by prospective employers schools will only acknowlege you were a student and that's it. No confirmation of graduation, no GPA.
No, they can't take your education back....but you can be thrown into jail for not paying your loans back. You can't file a bankruptcy either on school loans.
this is good news. you're right, the cost of college has gotten ridiculous.

btw, i looked at her web site. she is very talented.
The entire process of access to and payment for a higher education needs to be revisited. Beginning with the question or issue of whether college should immediately follow high school.....as opposed to some kind of community or military service which could be the basis for a "pre-payment" program...college admissions/entrance could be deferred for a two/four year period while the potential student is building "credits" toward payment thus upon leaving/graduating the debt carried by the student would be significantly less than it would be oother wise and payments would be smaller...there should be a distinction between publicly supported institutions and private institutions re the question of loans/subsidies to students....schools with multi-billion dollar endowments should be encouraged/required to develop loan programs which mirror or even match the government programs but which are supported by the privately endowed institution..... etc....Good post with important info.........
