My Thoughts...

(not to be taken too seriously, unless I'm serious)

Attention OpenSalon! Let's Meet In Kansas City, Missouri !!!

Rate: 15 Flag
I've got an idea that I am going to share with my OpenSalon friends. Over a period of about 6 months time I have noticed  OpenSalon members (small groups) gather at cities just simply to meet each other and to have fun. The last one I read about was the one in Las Vegas.

Why not a bunch of us from everywhere and anywhere meet right here in the heart of America?! Yes, right here in Kansas City, Missouri! I would be glad to organize it, find a place to stay and come up with fun activities for all of us to engage in....activities that would be enjoyable and yet provide plenty of interaction and visiting.

Why should we meet here, in Kansas City? For one thing, I live here and am afraid to fly and so wouldn't have to fly anywhere! Another valid reason that goes beyond  thinking of myself is for all the midwesterns who live around Kansas City, Missouri (NOT Kansas City, Kansas....sorry Trig). The traveling would be affordable because you would be able to drive if you couldn't or didn't want to fly.  Plus, Kansas City has a lot to offer as far as beautiful sights, superb dining out, fun bars and artistic places of interest for those who appreciate the Arts.

Here are some examples of what I am talking about:

1.) The Nelson Atkins Art Museum...one of the best in the country
2.) The Kansas City Plaza noted for its fountains, history, fun shopping, beauty and excellent restaurants
3.) Kansas City boasts of the best bar-b-que around and is noted for its Kansas City strip steaks and seafood....and just about any other types of international cuisine.
4.) Located downtown Kansas City are some historical buildings, one of them being the original hotel President Lincoln stayed in while visiting KC. Although it's no longer a hotel, the building remains intact.
5.) There is the new PowerLight District area where the young and restless tend to roam when not drinking or eating. It's a hopping place and extremely people oriented if you are a people watcher!
6.) There is also the KC Zoo which mimics a few of our continents as far as the layout of where the animals live.
7.)There are also some pretty lakes if that scene is more appealing.

It's just a thought. I would so much like to meet my OpenSalon friends where we could actually have face to face conversations, laugh together, share our hearts and get to know each other more intimately (I'm not proposing anything there.....you'll have to use your own judgment. :)

I believe this Fall, during October, would be a good time of the year because of the comfortable climate and beautiful array of Fall colors. It's a great time to be outdoors!

Please leave comments and throw out your ideas, whether  you think it's a real possibility or not....and if you are interested, leave some suggestions. If this happened, what do you envision? What activities are you interested in? What are you NOT interested in? Whatever those ideas may be, I would like to propose that we keep the cost at a minimum out of respect for the challenging times we are living in now. Plus, if we can keep the cost down, more of the OpenSalon community would be able to participate! Remember, the point of this gathering....the focus,  is YOU....the warm, caring and loving people of OpenSalon.

I promise you, we aren't cowboys chewing on hay here in Kansas City.....although if you would like that, I could hook you up!
Well crap, I want to meet a bunch of cowboys chewing on hay!!!

;)

Sounds like a plan. I don't know if I could make it or not. I think I'm like that recluse, nobody ever will meet me but will talk about me in hushed whispers!! ;)
I think it is an awesome idea. Day at one of our beautiful lakes would be a wonderful time. I could help Tink out with the cowboys chewing on hay..lol Some of the other places you mentioned sounds good also, though I am not much into the bar scene.
Too far for me, Patricia, mainly b/c I've shot my wad (so to speak) going to SF and NY this year. I hope you get a good group together. Even if there are only three or four, it would be fun. Sometimes those intimate gatherings are better than the big bashes.
I tried this back in April PK. If you can pull of a thing of course I'll attend :)
I'm visiting the US next year, and will be including
Kansas City in my itinerary
And what ever planet that naughty Tink might be
living on:)
Sorry - my budget this year is already blown on DragonCon and Hawaii. If you do get this organized, take lots of pictures to share with the group!
Patricia, It's a wonderful idea but I'm not going to be able to afford it this year. Please post loads of pictures and anecdotes, I'll enjoy vicariously!
Way too far for me I am afraid Patrica. I would like to see the flat land out there one day, though.
Keep us posted. Great idea, btw!!!
Give me a date. October is already pretty booked up, but I'd try.
Tink, if you show up, you'll be the star of the show!
fireeyes24, I'll keep you posted. Even if it's just a few, it would be fun.
Peter, I'll see you next June!
Mission, you've got the wrong state! KC is full of hills. You're thinking of Kansas!
High Lonesome, I'll keep you posted.
KC is one of my favorite American cities, just gorgeous.

Is it true you have more fountains than Rome?
You have to pick a specific date/weekend to get this thing moving. Based on my experiences, people end up just wanting to hang together because it's so much fun. Good luck!
I'd go if it were around a weekend and didn't involve me missing a clinical. Tink we can sit in a corner and just text the others.
I would love to go but a) my budget is tight and I don't know if I can afford a trip and b) school is rough, so I don't know if I can afford to take a weekend away time-wise during what may be a rather hectic time of the semester. But, I'd love to and if the weekend works I might show up.
Also, great idea, having a midwest OS meet-up. Thanks for putting the idea out there and being willing to organize it.
Lainey, maybe next time!
Mad_typist, I do understand. I'd love to meet you someday!
psychomama, for sure I will take pictures and write a post!
Stella, no Rome still has more, but apparently we have more than everyone else....which is hard for me to believe!
cartouche, I just want to get an idea if anyone is interested.
Jessabelle, that would be wonderful!
There are a bunch of casinos in your area....As a matter of fact If you explore the possibilities, I'm sure you can arrange an affordable package through one of them....You know I play poker/BJ/craps...Wouldn't mind visiting the area on that basis alone.... Time frame should be after 1 October but before Thanksgiving....This will be a fall event ...I'll do what I can to attend....
KC is as doable for me as New Orleans. I'd have to know a few more details due to budget requirements.
I'm only going if I get to visit a Creationist Museum.

I need this in writing.
It's probably not an option for me. I did visit Kansas City once before about 8 years ago and was pleasantly surprised by how nice it was.
I would love this! But like everyone else I need details. And I need advanced notice as I normally work weekends.
Anyone up for the Blues? Years ago I went to great blues bar in K.C. I can not now remember the name of place to save my soul. But I heard great music and they had fantastic BBQ

@Manchu Wok re visiting the Creationist Museum: Don't you find it odd that the Creationist Museum was built up slowing over a long period of time? You would think that it would have just appeared out of nothing.
@Stellaa -- I didn't know about the fountains. Interesting!
Please count me in. I would like to see and meet the authors of so many sleepless nights. : )
Patricia,
You are a Peach!!! And not a Colorado Peach, either! I would LOVE to come to a Kansas City Meet-up, including Trig of Kansas City, Kansas!!!! We had a blast at MarytKelly's in Colorado, just picnicing and lightly embibing in her beautiful back yard, and meeting for breakfast for a couple of days or so. It was cheap, and fun. I would love to do the same in Kansas City. Do you know someone who has a lovely backyard??? Kansas City is my home country, and it is indeed underrated. Thanks for volunteering to organize. With six kids, you would have to be fabulous at it!!! Carol
