The Proper Way To Discuss Political Ideas

Rate: 11 Flag

If only more political discussions could take place this way:

I was impressed how Franken handled the questions and objections thrown at him. No disrespect. No shouting. No rudeness. No unkindness. He was able to disarm any potential arguments with information and with a real understanding of their concerns.

Thank you!

I wanted to post the actual video, but wasn't sure how to do that. So, the link was all I could come up with.
Please watch the video. It will make you feel proud to be on the left side!
I was one of those liberals waiting... waiting... waiting to see Al Franken finally get appointed to the senate. Now, every time I see him on TV I get the biggest shit-eating grin... ;)
You are absolutely right. I am proud to be on the left and this was very inspiring. He is such an intelligent, articulate man and it is good to know that he is there speaking, not only for Minnesota, but all of us.
Such a breath of fresh air to have an intelligent informed and articulate politician. You are so right about his facing this hostile crowd with no unkindness and a genuine concern to help answer their concerns.
It is amazing how much information and insight can be exchanged when people are willing to listen...There were some people there who seemd ready to act up but for the fact that there were no microphones and cameras present to capture a performance.....I sent you a PM which provides detailed instructions re placing a video on your post....I hope that you will follow them and edit this post so that readers don't have to navigate away fro OS to view this timely and important video...Well done!!!!
Wow! Impressive! I really appreciated his being specific with facts where he could...and I was pleased to see that the others were listening to him instead of yelling at him. Thanks goodness! 'Bout time! Thanks for find this, Patricia
Interesting video - I wish we had more senators that were able to do this, and more citizens willing to at least listen to the facts.
Even more than Franken's example of communication that works, I appreciate your desire to focus on something that is going right rather than going wrong.

We need that particular lens.
Al Franken is da man! It's very hard to stay civil and rational when you have passionate feeling on a subject but Franken demonstrates that rational, civil dialog works.

I'll try to learn learn from him.
You are right. He did very well.
Thanks for the link.

Good post.
I aggree. He displayed a refreshing courtesy and aplomb. He is a class act.And should emulated by critics and allies alike.
Still proud to be on the right
Thanks for posting this Patricia. Franken's a good cat.
Al handled this well. Being among the crowd instead of on a stage helped. Most people shy away from asinine actions when face-to-face instead of being put at a distance by a formal setting with podium and stage. Also, add some star power to the mix in Al's case.

Most cyber rage would be muted by personal contact.
Let's everyone meet in Lebanon, Kansas and talk this over.
