My Thoughts...

Let's Kill The Liberals!

Rate: 14 Flag

"If you were in a room with Hitler, Mussolini, and a Liberal and had a gun with two bullets, what do you do?.......Shoot the Liberal twice. Hahaha"

I'm beginning to realize that I need to delete the Facebook friends who make stupid Republican comments or jokes, in this example. The above was a comment a Facebook friend left on the Facebook "home" feed. What makes the deleting a little more complicated is that the above Facebook friend is my nephew who lives in Texas. When I see comments like this, especially coming from a family member, I feel compelled and almost obliged to respond. I responded with: "Do you have any liberals in mind? (More than half of your family are Democrats!) Also, are you saying that Hitler and Mussolini are better than Democrats/Liberals? Come on Matt, think about what you're saying."

After my nephew and brother verbally  "ganged" up on me for my comment.....you can probably figure out the ensuing comments: Liberals can't take a joke and I'm looking silly for the comment I made etc. I simply told him that I don't think it's ever funny to joke about killing....especially in light of past school killings and other public murders in our country.

I would like to go back and add the recent killing spree at Ft. Hood in Texas as another example. As tempted as I am to do that, I've decided to restrain myself and just let the discussion end. Hopefully, my points will not look as "silly" now with the recent Texas tragedy.

When are the far right Republicans going to wake up?!

I felt this post was appropriate to post today in light of my last post AND with the tragedy at Ft. Hood.
Yeah that's a "funny" joke alright, and it perfectly captures where these people's heads are at.

"When are the far right Republicans going to wake up?!"

Good question, but my advice is to not hold your breath while you're waiting for them to regain consciousness:)
Very appropriate post! Rated.
the backlash is really starting to kick in with the dumb dumbs and smart rat liberals don't get it yet.
The minute that I was a member was just as bad. I live in the south, so the conservatives had virtually taken control of the site I was on. People talking about how the wars were a good thing, having never even had a member of their family killed in these stupid wars. Like I said, I was on there for only a minute. You can't talk to these idiots who don't, or can't, even read a newspaper.

Patricia,
I’m not as troubled by whom they wanted to shoot as I am who they would have left alive.
I hope the far right Republicans never wake up. They'll lose every election for a century if they keep this crap up.
R
PS: If any of the people on my FB mouth the slightest bit of Republican baloney, I usually delete them with the words. "I can't be your friend anymore. You're morally bankrupt."
sometimes jokes reveal the truth within the jokester. ~R~
I so totally relate. Welcome to my world. I've decided to stop wasting my breath on them.
The far right is having a wet dream (excuse the crudeness) and the rest of us are having a nightmare. Rated
Everyone knows that this kind of joke is a veiled threat. It's in bad taste..and coming from a person who is a purveyor of bad taste in humor, that's pretty freaking bad.
Gah.

The racist asshole I deleted for being a racist asshole actually had the temerity to message me and ask why I'm not on his friends list anymore and then ranted about how he isn't a racist, he just doesn't like black people because all of them he's ever met are lazy and criminal.

Facebook is a great reminder that fully 50% of humans are stupider than the average person.
I'm a moderate of sorts, liberal on some issues, conservative on others.

And while I agree that it's in poor taste to advocate the killing of others even jokingly, I don't think the trait is at all related to one's political views.

I've been posting out here at OS for about a year and one of my biggest surprises in reading a lot of posts out here is how violent and hate-filled some of the comments are - typically comments aimed at conservative political figures. Historically I've associated liberals more with "peace" and "love" per se, but I've pretty much realized in the last year that often those warm fuzzy feelings are reserved only for the members of the human race that they agree with politically.

I'm as frustrated with the Limbaugh, Coulter, Cheney cabal as anyone else with a brain, but still I recognize that despite the fact that they have very different political opinions than I do, I still see them basically as human beings. And so I recoil when I see hatred hurled at them on a personal level and when I see "liberals" here on OS engaging in that I'm reminded of Ghandi's comment that "intolerance belies a lack of faith in one's cause".
Ugh. I don't consider killing to be a joke either - and that is one of the worst I've heard. Also agree with Dennis Knight's observation.
Natatehay: Sad, but true.
Cymraeg: Thank you.
Ben Sen: I think I know what you mean.
Scanner: You can't have the good without the bad, I guess.
Dennis: Thought provoking.
John: Good point about losing every election.
A little tougher when it is family, but I share your concerns.
Chuck: You're right. It's disheartening knowing it's coming from my nephew.
Cap'n: You're wise.
The Wright Sight: Definitely a nightmare because it's no dream!
Andy: Unfortunately, he's just a kid!
Verbal Rememdy: I guess we can all be an "asshole" at one time or another. Maturity is being able to recognize it.
Fins2theleft: Great points, but I've only read a couple here on OS that came across nasty....but I wouldn't say violent.
Dustbowldiva: When is killing ever a joke?
JDSmith: You're absolutely right about family.
I admire you sticking to your guns EVEN with family. : )
Matt knows what is right, but somewhere along the path, he has lost his way. It has become ok to be uncaring and to joke inappropriately.
That is so easy to do in this media market mentality we as a nation have now. All extremes, and no humanism.
This joke fits in well with my theory about the far right and fascism doesn't it?
patricia k : My family is very very opinionated, and very very liberal. Sometimes evey they are over the top. It is not always conservatives, and I find myself in the strange position of being 23 , female, and the conservative voice in my family.
Good lord. You have a lot to contend with. It's better to say something when people close to you say appalling things, even if you don't change their minds right away.
