Love and Letting Go (prose poetry)

Rate: 13 Flag

she called me out of the blue

and shared something from her heart

(my step-daughter)

it meant so much more

because she was the one

who picked up the phone

it never works to try to force love

and you can't gain it by manipulation

love is given freely, or not at all

love is like the wind, it blows where it will

love is a fire, burning bright

but try to contain it and the flame goes out

and to love back means giving up control

it's a hard lesson to learn, letting go

letting someone else respond

and if they won't

if they give back silence

or nothing more than stilted words

the only thing left is to feel the pain

of loss and go on

I only come to love with the wild creature

I never learn in love with the automaton

"It never works to try to force love." True and poignant. Rated.
Love is like playing with fire. You can get burned. Lots of great lines in this poem.
rated, as always...happy, happy New Year Frank!!!! keep on strummin'
Love is elusive as you beautifully show us in your poem.
I enjoyed the waltz through your piece. Read to a background of Errol Garner.

Good balance.
Keep sharing the Wisdom and the Beauty, Patrick. You're on a roll.
Keep pursuing your "wild one" Patrick.
Love and freedom make both more valuable...more keenly felt. xo Great insights...r
"To feel the pain/of loss and go on"--two very hard things here: feeling pain, going on after it comes, and that's why those last two words are the important ones: they give meaning to the pain of loss. Very well said, Patrick.
You speak truth here, and do it so well.

Control and love are two words that are mutually exclusive.
"If they give back silence..." Yes, that's the worst.
oh, this so hits home with me today...

nice, very nice!
This is beautiful, Patrick. I really love it.
Wisdom, truth and honesty all here. Love and control .... never the twain shall meet.

I think this just might be my favourite of yours so far, Patrick.
