I Am Who I Am (poetry and a song)

Rate: 2 Flag

First a poem, then a song, and you can hear it on in a wav attachment if you email me: patrickgfrank@gmail.com

People sometimes look at me like I'm strange

but I'm just me

like Bon Jovi says

I do things a little differently

people sometimes act nervous

when my thoughts and words take flight

they kind of stare at me

or don't respond

or just move as far away as they can

I'm used to this

and yet it hurts sometimes

I let the real me out with children

and grownups I really trust

like my wife

and schizophrenic friends

and in the poetry

I share with you

my thoughts jump around

my thoughts tumble out fast

am I just crazy?

maybe

maybe not

but the people who love me

accept me as I am

I'm sure I've lost

more than a few jobs over this

especially when I was sub teaching

subs are expected to toe the mark

subs are expected

to do little more

than follow the plan

not free associate

not bring their guitar into school

not stray from the plan

even though the kids who are different

gravitate to me

they don't care about that

when I say "they"

what I mean is

the powers that be

so I'm out of a job

and it makes me feel bad

but I do what I can

to just be myself

though it makes me sad

to not be with the kids

oh well

I am who I am

take me or leave me

I am who I am

Now the song...

Back to the Sun

All I have hope for, babe, all I have dreamed

All I have come to know, all I have believed

I want to share with you all I have become

I want to take you back, back to the sun

All the things I've seen, babe

All the things I've done

All the times I've stood and fought

All the times I've run

I want to share with you all I have become

I want to take you back, back to the sun

Won't you come back with me

to the South where I lived

Where the night seems to breathe

and the earth seems to give

I want to share with you all I have become

I want to take you back

Back to the sun

All of the present and all of the past

I want to share with you memories that last

All I have written and all i have sung

I want to take you back, back to the sun

Oh my goodness, Patrick. That song blew me away. Such poignant lyrics. I have goosebumps. And the poem? Wow. I basically feel that way on a regular basis. Don't ever disallow those thoughts or words to take flight. They are the essence of you. And the ones who love you, the ones who understand you, will take flight right alongside you. R
Fabulous Patrick. Your writing is getting better and better. LOVE the song.
