Bio
I am a poet-essayist-singer-songwriter, and advocate for the poor, with a teaching and counseling background. I grew up in Florida, now live in Arden, North Carolina. I also lived in New England 20 years. I love nature, music, and poetry. I am married and we have three adult-kids between us and four grandkids! I am interfaith, leaning toward Taoist, Celtic, and Native American spirituality, and an "Obama Democrat." I am now focusing on our upcoming move (within Asheville) as well as my music and poetry-writing. I also continue to write political columns.

Infinity, Healing the Wounds (poetry) and an update

Rate: 3 Flag

heading for South Carolina

something nagging at me

but last night Linda said she loves me

in a way I know she means it and more

she always will

I have a problem I have to work out

have to talk to someone, take action

life goes on, there is work to do

there is something inside myself

to heal

somewhere in the night

there are blazing stars

infinity, healing

the wounds

Update

Yesterday I received a rejection from an agent in about three minutes! That was a record. I had to laugh. At least I'm getting used to this, from publishers and agents. Yet, I keep plugging along. It is gratifying to have my political columns published in the Asheville paper and to be able to blog.

When you get to the point where you can laugh at "failure," that's a good sign. And when you can laugh WITH SOMEONE, and it is a genuine laugh, that constitutes a kind of healing in the relationship, or it indicates that the relationship is on a good path.

I am learning that life is a series of problems, and solving them brings healing and spiritual growth. Your poems have been providing that lesson of late with such clarity and such beauty: "infinity, healing the wounds."
Your perseverance in so many aspects of life is a true inspiration. I wish you well as you continue on your quest for an agent and publishers. I heard one time that if you believe very strongly in your work, somewhere in the world someone else will too....
My humble self sure believes in it....R
I may put something like that in my query.
Very, very beautiful poem and words, Patrick. What better way to heal than laughing, plugging along, and sharing love with your partner. I'm with Michelle, these lines are so clear & beautiful,

somewhere in the night

there are blazing stars

infinity, healing

the wounds
Insightful! And wise. To know that you have some healing to do is always the first step - recognition, acceptance - and action. Good for you! I stand with Michelle - your poems of late are getting deeper and deeper within, and I love that you share them! R.

Oh. PS. I just got my FIRST rejection. I had to start somewhere! :-)
3 minutes? Well, they clearly have high standards that aren't being met! Glad to see you haven't given up!
