Bio
I am a poet-essayist-singer-songwriter, and advocate for the poor, with a teaching and counseling background. I grew up in Florida, now live in Arden, North Carolina. I also lived in New England 20 years. I love nature, music, and poetry. I am married and we have three adult-kids between us and four grandkids! I am interfaith, leaning toward Taoist, Celtic, and Native American spirituality, and an "Obama Democrat." I am now focusing on our upcoming move (within Asheville) as well as my music and poetry-writing. I also continue to write political columns.

The Magic of a Baseball Cap (poetry)

Rate: 2 Flag

"You don't know how it feels to be me"

Tom Petty

But through my little poems, I try to let you know...

with my Clemson cap

I'm ready for the world

I'm not afraid

of anybody when I walk

outside and go downtown

and mix with strangers

what is it in a simple

baseball cap?

what magic in the orange

tiger paw or off white bill?

I feel protected, I feel like me

I feel somehow cool, I feel like

I belong

it's a Southern thing

if I go out into the world

without my baseball cap

I'm not afraid

I'm glad you have your hat. Everyone should have something to hang on to even when you dont have it.
It's probably a guy thing, isn't it. Something about that bill hanging down over your eyes. . .
I think we all need our tokens, medals, mana, safe havens from the world of fte and chance.
