Bio: I am a poet-essayist-singer-songwriter, and advocate for the poor, with a teaching and counseling background. I grew up in Florida, now live in Arden, North Carolina. I also lived in New England 20 years. I love nature, music, and poetry. I am married and we have three adult-kids between us and four grandkids! I am interfaith, leaning toward Taoist, Celtic, and Native American spirituality, and an "Obama Democrat." I am now focusing on our upcoming move (within Asheville) as well as my music and poetry-writing. I also continue to write political columns.

How Long to Recover, Hoping to Learn (1)

I was backing out of a space at Dunkin’ Donut when suddenly I heard a loud noise. I was afraid I had hit a car or person, and jumped out of the car. It was an angry man and maybe his grandson. “he yelled,” “Look before you back out…I hit your car with my umbrella.” I am sure my heart was beating faster. I apologized, even though I thought the man was over the top in his action. I became consumed with fear. How long will it take to recover from this scare? I hope I learned from this experience.

That old man needs to be careful, or the next person he "scares" may pop out with a gun. While annoying, having someone back up in front of you is not worth that angst. I assume the person didn't see me. Lord knows I've done it before.

My friend used to get very annoyed at cars that did this to him and he was a force to be delt with. You are lucky it wasnt just an umbrella. Got to be careful in this crazy world.

Well, this has happened to me. I have looked and looked and started backing and suddenly there's someone there. Where do they come from? And you get scared to death thinking about what might have happened. Glad you and they are in one piece.
