Bio
I am a poet-essayist-singer-songwriter, and advocate for the poor, with a teaching and counseling background. I grew up in Florida, now live in Arden, North Carolina. I also lived in New England 20 years. I love nature, music, and poetry. I am married and we have three adult-kids between us and four grandkids! I am interfaith, leaning toward Taoist, Celtic, and Native American spirituality, and an "Obama Democrat." I am now focusing on our upcoming move (within Asheville) as well as my music and poetry-writing. I also continue to write political columns.

How Long to Recover, Hoping to Learn (2)

Having gone through the experience of fearing I had hit a pedestrian with my SUV, I am glad that I seem to have put this behind me. I went on to the Y later and shot around on the court; now I feel mentally and physically OK. But I wonder how I would have responded if I had hit that grandfather and his grandson? A crisis can arise any time, unexpectedly. I try to visualize a crisis, and think to myself that no matter what happens, I can step up and respond as a responsible and caring person.

It's good to be vigilant, but you would never careen around a parking lot and hit people on purpose. Would you? I back up so slowly that people actually wonder if I'm moving, but I have to do it that way to avoid the people that think they need to go first no matter the circumstances. Glad your day is going better.
The fact that you are aware of and speak of these concerns tells you all you need to know, Patrick.
