We are taking a long time on this move (within Asheville) to reduce the stress factor. We have pretty much gotten past the heavy lifting. Good thing, too, becauser my knee is giving out.
The stressed cat seems to be calming down and I see her playing with the other cat now and only occasionally hissing. Guess she is settling in. One great thing is that in the much larger digs the cats are running all over the place and getting lots of exercise, which they needed.
We're still not connected to the net at home so I blog from Panera Bread.
We went to yard sales yesterday and it went well, but a feeling of sadness washed over me as the image of me doing the same thing with my ex-wife came to mind. Sadness because divorce is traumatic, no matter what. There is still some guilt and sadness after all these years. We did not think it through carefully before taking the plunge. Too many personal and cultural differences that we did not factor in. One of many life traumas. The major life traumas are never forgotten, but hopefully we learn to deal with them.
I am at a point where I want to watch feel-good movies or none at all.
But life is good. My marriage is good and overall, my health is good. I wish I were working part-time, but maybe in the fall. The writing is going. I had one poetry acceptance to a journal recently--a poem about childhood that I always felt deserved publication. I had one political column also pubhlished recently which I feel good about--Character and Ideology in Politics. My basic take that character is more important to me than ideology in making political choices.
Really enjoying the book by Coach K. on motivation and character. He talked about the decision to turn down a huge pro contract to stay at Duke. He made the3 decision that loyalty to Duke and the program and athletes outweighed the factor of money. Of course, he's making good money at Duke but he started out there just making 40 K, can you believe it?
Really looking forward to performing Tim Petty's song Wildflowers at the Ugly Mug open mic Wednesday.
I have a procedure Monday to at a kidney issue. As I said before, I am a little worried. If there is a serious problem, better to nip it in the bud now.
