Bio: I am a poet-essayist-singer-songwriter, and advocate for the poor, with a teaching and counseling background. I grew up in Florida, now live in Asheville, North Carolina. I also lived in New England 20 years. I love nature, music, and poetry. I am married and we have three adult-kids between us and four grandkids! When My Son Flew up to See Me

Once upon a time

I had an apartment

With a blue room

My son flew up to visit

And we played pool

Later on I lived

In a rooming house

Murky place

Where the shower stall

Had mold, and brown water

Poured down

And when we walked downtown

On State Street, we were followed

Someone lurking in the shadows

My son’s visits deteriorated

He saw that I was surviving

Skating on the edge

Now that my life is stable

We have grown closer

But I still feel remorse

Wish I had more to offer

When I was Up North

And he came to see me

No Answers

Linda disappears

In the airport

Don’t know her gate

No car seat for the baby

Helpless, hopeless

Alone, no answers

Not like me

I’m a coper

bitter cold
and my sons have seen worse
in me
redemption starts in forgiveness
sunshine starts the new day
and warmth returns
