I would hate to rain on the right wing’s post party parade by pointing out what should be obvious, but because they are immune to reality there is no danger of doing that. For those not trapped in the ideological circle jerk that defines the boundaries of what passes for “conservative thought” lately, a few observations.
If you see yesterday’s protests as an ominous sign of a growing right wing movement - relax. What you saw was a shrinking, out of power political rump shaking its booty. This is the same right wing that watches Fox News (motto: Fare Imbalanced), listens to Rush, Hannity and Beck and lives in a virtual reality world where they represent the mainstream. These are the same folks who ruined conservatism and fatally wounded the Republican elephant. The only thing growing is the decibel level of complaint and the appeal to those ideologues that already inhabit the political badlands.
Two groups joined the shrinking, reputation diminishing Republican right yesterday – the white supremacists and the Libertarians. The White Right, of course, is in no danger of being defiled by association. What could anyone say about Hitler that would make you feel even more disgust?
Libertarians, however, have something to lose. Even though they can’t gain political traction with their cross purpose theories of individual freedom with oligarchic rule, they do, at least, attempt an intellectual argument. Here they join the boldest, most blatant promoters of anti-intellectualism since 1633, when Galileo was arrested for believing the Earth revolves around the sun.
Note to Libertarians: Look what the right wing has done to conservatives and Republicans. You seem to think, like they did, that you’re going to recruit them to your cause, and you, like they, will end up being scalped down to your brain stems. How long until the right wing has you squatting in the woods after midnight, banging a tin can with a stick, waiting to capture the imaginary Marxist Liberal Snipe in your burlap bag? Get out while you still can.
The commercialized right wing Tea Parties were attended by conservatives who wouldn’t know a conservative principle if Russell Kirk rose from his grave and bit them on the ass. “Individualists” who were told, from on high, to be upset, and they reacted in mass and on cue. The suddenly fiscally focused flip-floppers who spent the last eight years rationalizing runaway debt as being a “small part of GDP” have had a most politically convenient epiphany.
The most blatant irony of all from this group that swims in a sea of incongruities is that they chose the Boston Tea Party as the symbol of their protest. The radical leftist liberal hating ideologues chose an act by the radical leftist liberals who founded America to protest the policies designed to repair the economy that the right’s ideology crippled.
Who do they blame instead? The radical leftist liberals, of course!
The right wing’s scripted insanity is getting tedious and distractive, and is working towards a dramatic conclusion. Cults always self destruct when they realize the end of their self deception is close at hand. I think the political and commercial interests that organized this pseudo grass root show may have been collecting tea bags to use in the next Loyalty Test, where the obedient political cult will drink “The Tea of Everlasting Freedom.”
What would be the appropriate thing to say to the radical rump if that happens?
Bottoms up!

You have a great writing style. Your point about the righties choosing to emulate a supremely leftist act reveals their true stupidity. I have always scratched my head over that sort of irony in their worldview. It makes no sense.
You write, “The right wing’s scripted insanity is getting tedious and distractive, and is working towards a dramatic conclusion.”
I think the “tedious and distractive” aspect is actually their goal. I was once again amazed at the level of coverage the MSM gave this ridiculous little “distraction”. It’s all pathetic, but these righties aren’t going anywhere. They’ll be around in four years.
Thanks for commenting.
The "conservatives" have a deep respect for our founding principles. How do they prove that? By putting it on a bumper sticker. They actually have no f-ing clue what those principles are.
I agree that distraction is the goal of those who organized the follies. The conservative movement does get far more attention than their numbers deserve, but even with that Affirmative Action assistance it's a failure. They will be around in 4 years, and long after that. They will be there until the commercial appeal of factional chain jerking ends.
I love your theme of diminishing returns. The Republican party rose to power on the weight of the extremist Right and all of it's components.
Now, instead of seeing the error of their ways, they use the decidedly wrong move of telling the rest of us that we made a mistake, which is bringing even more diminishing returns.
Resorting to violence is their only remaining ploy. This will bring them ultimate returns.
Rated for boodyliciousness!
Better warn Cato that AEI intends to date rape them.
Zuma,
The wingers are painting themselves into a corner. Somebody is going to get hurt by the time the wing-dingers hit their "Have you no shame?" moment.
