My Son gets TV Time as a OWS Spokesman

Rate: 15 Flag

My son moved to the Big Apple almost a year ago and was in Zuccotti Park this morning, enjoying a day off of work (we enjoy politics). This is a clip from the NYC channel 7 WABC noon news program. The first interview is my son, PJ II, who did a very good job of making a few well moderated, on point statements. His part begins @1:25.

He showed up again on our Oklahoma local news as part of the ABC national news feed, though edited down to the last line.

Unlike being an extra on HBO's How to Make it in America, here he gets a few lines. He's more articulate than the last 2 Texas governors, so maybe this is the start of a career in politics.

Good job, son!

Thanks, Myriad, Don.
I think he said what most of the younger people would say. They initially sought him out because he was carrying one of his political cartoons, poster-sized, of the Wall Street bull just after he committed suicide. He left a note: To whom it may concern--I've been living a lie.

The lighting could have been better.
He acquitted himself pretty well.
Thanks, Abra
If they had asked me...or Don Rich...we would have started lecturing and ended up on the cutting room floor -- to use a defunct term in a digital age.
Very nice! Enjoyed watching the segment. Send him my regards on my behalf.
Thanks and will do, Kanuk.
I keep thinking about those saying that OWS needs spokespersons and focus, talking points.. It started as a protest against Wall Street, 1% vs the 99%.. but awakening from a national stupor is waking a many-headed Hydra. Good Gods there are so many things wrong socially, coming to light and awareness - where do you start?

I think for now, here in the beginning while the sleeping are still rousing, just the numbers, the growth, media focus on the coming together is the important thing. Talking points and speakers to each facet can come a little later.

As your son said so well "We're going to find a way to be heard" - about a great many things I hope :).

Rated for a little less ruckus, let's simply maintain presence.
Bravo. I am just as proud of him as of my two and their five tours overseas- this is patriotism, no retreat; no surrender.
Wow! He's very self assured without being cocky, not easy to pull off. I'm happy to see young men and women like him, it's as it should be, the future is theirs.

Good job PJII and good job dad!
On the clip I saw, a proud son declared, "I'm P.J. O'Rourke's son".
You done good!
Seer,
I'm still one of those who sees an essential need for a political movement component above camp-out protests, but this was a singular event type of protest and had the proper focus, the few radicals aside.
OWS will find a way to be heard, but eventually, so will the now silent and to a great degree silenced majority. When that happens, change will come.

Thanks, Sheila.

Thanks, Oahu. It is a privilege to be proud of our kid's accomplishments. My son isn't quite the political animal I am, but he's certainly more activist and in this, he delivers with a sense of how to say what needs saying.

Thanks, Pat.

Bleue,
That's a good way to put it. Self assured sans cocky.
Thanks and I'm sure P2 will like the feedback and thank you as well.

Fay, that was him on Designator's live feed. Funny thing is I had just started watching it when I saw P2 walk by. I called him, turned him around and got a sort of video conference as the guy doing the streaming did a mini-interview. Serendipitous.
Thanks.
The doesn't fall too far from the...ah well, you know what I mean, no cliche necessary. PJ II did a fine job. And he's photogenic, too.
Thanks, Steve
He's had a spot on local Manhattan cable, did the HBO gig and got to attend the wrap party and now this. He didn't go to NYC to be an actor, yet his mug has been on TV several times. In the above vid he shows why I say it's a good thing he got his dad's brains and his mom's nose and not the other way around.
Paul, Junior did ya proud.

Heh, the guy that shows up at about 9:45 or so into the clip really slays me. He exemplifies the disconnect between those people who work there and the realities on the ground in “average America”. He says, “…they should their fight to Washington …”

What a dip! The whole point is that taking the fight to Washington no longer works, it is a useless endeavor, the entire system is wrapped up in a convoluted tangle of corruption in favor of the Wall-Streeters who are so completely disconnected from reality.

While I feel certain there are some Occupiers’ tempers might flare on occasion, I do not believe the reporters who knee-jerk blame the protesters for the skirmishes; there have been too many video clips exposing the fact that the police are more often the instigators.

the quoted should read, "...TAKE their fight to Washington ..."
