True Blood Season 2 Finale

Rate: 2 Flag

Well, I said earlier that joining of forces would be the way to defeat Maryann in True Blood, and it sure was, but the joining consisted of fewer forces, which in turn led to a surprise at the very end.

With all humans under Maryann's power, it's up to Bill and Sam to bring her down, which they do with Sam almost sacrificing himself, Bill quietly reviving him, and Sam coming back as a Dionysius bull to Maryann. She embraces him, thinking him her god, and Sam gores her to death (she's vulnerable in the presence of an entity she at first believes to be her god).

So far, so good. The town is slowly coming back to as normal as it can be, given some of its denizens. Bill asks Sookie out to dinner, and proposes. She doesn't say yes immediately. Is she thinking of Eric?

Eric was absent from the destruction of Maryann. He earlier tells the Queen that he intends to take care of Bill, and not in a good way.

In some ways, I think the ending would have been stronger had Eric come to Sookie, while she was in the powder room, thinking what to do about Eric's proposal ... and gone away with Eric...

Instead, it's Bill who is apparently taken away by Eric - or someone - against his will. Sookie decides to say yes, only to find him gone...

So Sookie's left alone to start the next season. If Eric kidnapped Bill, Eric will surely come back to consummate his relationship with Sookie. If someone else kidnapped Bill, Eric and Sookie could join forces to rescue Bill. Either way, there's some face time ahead for Eric and Sookie, and the possibilities are, as always with True Blood, intriguing. Bring on the bad things of Season 3.

I wasn't fished in by the taking of Bill. We're being set up to think it was Eric who took him. However, the only times we've seen silver used in the capture or containment of a vampire have been incidents of *human* attack.

Eric is a thousand years old and in a position of authority to Bill. He doesn't need a silver necklace to capture, injure or destroy anyone. It's not his style and it would be unnecessary.

HBO needs to get on the ball and figure out that the love/hate relationship we had with shows like Rome, Carnivale and the Sopranos is caused by the stupidly long wait we have for the next season. If they have any sense, they will produce another half-season in January (or early spring at the latest) to maintain the good will and good buzz they have now. Otherwise, viewers will resent the wait and the show's run will eventually end prematurely.

Just my two cents.
Agreed as to the wait. And as for the taking of Bill - my first thought was Eric - or the Queen (what's HER deal?) but I guess we'll have to wait.
All of True Blood Season 2 is still waiting for me on TiVo.
Eric and Sookie will - must - eventually get together. Even HBO should see that and move Bill to the sidelines. He's charming but static, while Eric is dangerous and mysterious. In the books, and on the show, Bill is heading for removal.
I totally agree with Jodi...Eric would not have to resort to silver.
(And I personally hate these ridiculously long waits between seasons...bad HBO)

The only person (vampire ) that knew about the French restaurant, was the little redhead, Bill's ward. hmmm?

Jason's shooting of the "the murderer" .... this will definitely expand next season. (Poor dumb Jason)

I hated to see Mary Ann die off. Loved the character.

And tickled to death to see Layfaette back to his old self!
Was I the only one a bit disappointed last night? Actually, to be honest, I've been a bit bored all season. What was so interesting about the series at first, was Bill's struggle with the "human" as a vampire. It was edgy to see him almost force himself to like humans and live with them. He seemed always at war with his nature and that was made even more interesting when he became attached to Sookie. However, over the course of this season, Bill has become more and more "human" and less "vampire", especially with regard to his relationship to Sookie. Sookie giving Bill advise? yuck..but there it was. Eric was menacing and sort of took over that role, which made him important, but more and more it seems as if he is becoming more "human" as well..what is all this jealousy crap? He is a f'in vampire...why would he ever need to trick Sookie into being with him or being attracted to him? Just drain her and move on..but no..sorry, but by dumbing down the vamps if you will, its just getting a tad boring.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: The opening credits are the best part of the show.
I had to quit True Blood cold turkey: my year of free HBO ended!
Your summaries have been my only way to see how my favorites are doing.

Thanks so much!
I'm just glad this Maryanne thread is done. Man, it was getting totally silly. The religious-right thing has got to make a comeback, by far the most interesting conflict in the series.
