Before the Dawn

Rate: 3 Flag

Big black fly

I trapped

In the bathroom

Flying

Buzzing

Dive-bombing

As I wash my face

Insane

Desperate

To find

Its way out

Calm down

I say gently

As I reach

For a towel

I have a plan

I’ll turn off

The light

Then I’ll open

The window

And you’ll

Find the way

It would not

Listen

Smacking madly

Into walls

And I wondered

If I was

Like the fly

Half-crazed

With worry

Trying to

Find a way

Calm down

God said gently

Reaching for

The switch

I have a plan

Don’t be

Afraid

I’ve turned off

The lights

So you can

Find the way

I tried to post this last night and everything was either really slow or not working at all. Found out this morning that my post had gone through in the end, but by then I'd re-written it. So here it is again, with a new title. (thanks for your comment Robin :-)
Love this. Best use of insect in poetry since Donne's "The Flea."
If you're fond of insects you should read John Collier's story in "Fancies and Goodnights" about Gavin O'Leary, a flea that became a Hollywood film director.
Pilgrim: thanks! :-)

Jan Sand: sounds great - will definitely read it :-)
There is a plan, surely that is true.
Oh this feels so much like my last few days. Thanks for this.
Me too! You're welcome Algis :-)
