My 25 things (well 27) about moi

Rate: 17 Flag

Love these lists.. To find the others that I saw in the middle of the night, search for "25 things". Here's mine:

  1. I am voracious reader
  2. I wear mostly black and sometimes red
  3. I believe in mystery and energetic fields; I walk the labyrinths at Grace Cathedral
  4. When I wake up, I listen for the hum of the universe and give thanks
  5. I love black + white photographs. I love shadows and darkness. People forget that Dionysus ruled Delphi 6 months of the year. I love winter for the “going in” aspects of cold and more darkness.
  6. I love cities and the built environment
  7. My few real friends are extremely precious to me
  8. I’m not good at small talk
  9. I have loved deeply but not wisely, and I’m afraid I don’t know what love is. I want to know real intimacy before I die. I want my lover and I to guard each other’s solitude. I still haven’t found what I’m looking for. I love Dr. Gregory House, Dave Robicheaux, Law & Order, and David Morrell ‘snovels which are all about trust, relationships, intimacy and betrayal.
  10. I bruise easily
  11. I’m a great driver and have driven across the country several times alone
  12. I can’t imagine why someone would go to Las Vegas for fun
  13. I love fruit and don’t eat enough vegetables; starch is my downfall. I hate lima beans and anchovies.
  14. I don’t smoke and I don’t drink wine
  15. I miss my cat Bête who died last year and believe that the sporadic beeping sound my old car emits is her talking to me. I always acknowledge her contact.
  16. I have visions of monks chanting in dim hallways
  17. I’m afraid of heights, small airless places, flying, and crowds (I’m arm pit height)
  18. I want to write 10 more books
  19. I want to be Thomas Friedman (oh not a foreign correspondent, but someone who writes books about the convergence of business, government, and non-profits to make this a sustainable world), to be an important and valued voice in the discussion about how to get America back on track.
  20. I want to have spiritual relationship with money (along the lines of what Lynne Twist speaks of in “The Soul of Money.”)
  21. I’m not very domestic (domesticated?) – I’m a terrible housekeeper and only occasionally an adequate cook
  22. I see patterns and connections (business, people, networking, trends); often I’m about 10 years ahead of my time
  23. People trust me
  24. I drink whiskey (Jameson’s Irish or Johnny Black)
  25. I identify with outsiders and I like living on the edges (of the continent, of the desert… New York, Corrales NM, San Francisco)
  26. I sleep between leopard print sheets, with leopard print pillow cases and a leopard print comforter
  27. I have a red briefcase

You are very, very cool. I especially love #4. If you figure out #20, please write about it, OK? Money and I are always at odds.
I like the whole list but particularly relate to #s 5-10 and #21.
Where you sleep is extremely important. (For me, it is a bed of roses.)
Ah, Jameson's and Gregory House...
Loved this list. #15 made me sad.
What is armpit height? (I'm 4'10")
Glad you decided to share. I will not take this bait. I will not take this bait. I will not take this bait.
... and i have great bus door karma ... for those of us who live in cities and ride busses all the time having the bus stop and open its doors right in front of you is pretty cool stuff
yes, money and some spiritual connectedness would be good... have you read "The Soul of Money?" it's a good one. thanks lisa.

thanks dorinda -- these lists let us see common ground, don't they? it encourages me.
Wonderful list! Especially meaningful to me are numbers 7,8, 12, 15 (my cat Miss Crystal died in 2007; her tiny b&w picture is on my dashboard where she protects me because I"m NOT a good driver), 21,22 and 25.
Jameson's and Gregory House... our guilty pleasures eh o'stephanie? we could do whole posts on guilty pleasures like Gregory House... [g]

m, arm pit height means that I'm 5'2" and my breathing apparatus fits snugly into arm pits in crowds -- and if I can see and I can't breath easily I freak! please please take the bait so we can see our common ground and our uniqueness.
we have quite a bit in common nurse... what fun... cats are mythical beings and maybe they are a connection to the divine (no offense to those who may believe something else.)
why are no men posting comments to this? hunh! where are you guys?

umbrealla, yes these lists show us how much we have in common and where our differences are. i love them. i'm glad you're seeing our connections.
Wonderful. Would love to know more about your experience with writing, too.

Waiting for #18!
love to talk about writing... and the whole creative process. it is where my heart resides artsfish. we could have coffee in that cafe... and just meander.

have a happy holiday.
My heart resides in anything creative. OS is my first leap into any writing south of long forgotten term papers, but I have to say that words come easily from my brain, and I enjoy it greatly - guess i'll see where that goes.

I would love that coffee...
I so get #12. Why do so many conferences have to be held there???
yeah, all about loving well but not wisely science... almost didn't put that one up there. now it feels like a good connector.
i like your writing artsfish... it feels like its authentic and as long as that's true, the words flow... at least to and for me.

yeah. let's find a place.... delicious.
yay - a post from a man (i think -- i assume all the other posts are from women (accepting images and names as true)... yeah catamite... las vegas is a complete mystery to me (and not the kind i was referring to in my post... as in divine mystery or energetic mystery)... blah blah...

good to know not everyone like vegas.
Loved reading your list Paula. The more of these I read the more I'm thinking that I need to do one. Now yours has brought me that much closer to gettin' up the nads. Thanks!
it's about loving well, and loving someone who is worthy of what you have to offer. too many of us are spinning our wheels. I've craved it as well... the partner who always has your back... the sense of "us against the world". for some reason, Greg House seems like he gets that.. how messed up is that?
How about fava beans and liver?
I'm not good at small talk either. I've done lots of thinking and some writing about our relationships with money, how our emotions and feelings of self-worth are tied into money, and how to change our perspective about it so that accepting it is not as difficult as we make it. Et cetera. I could go on. I want to write more books too. Or, for that matter, any, since mine just lay around unfinished.
This was beautiful and so well written that I feel like I can relate even to the parts I know nothing about.

"I want my lover and I to guard each other’s solitude."

Beautiful.
When you experience true intimacy, please send me a post card! Thanks
i was going to send you a message nanatehay... you need to do one because i want to read it! this is a great thread.... welcome back, we missed you.
oops. last message was for nanatehay.... who's been missing in action....
paula, i've got my list posted! boy does it make me feel silly though.
n, what is most interesting is that those i was most vulnerable about are some of the ones most commented on.... so i'll go read yours now.
imagine... gregory house understanding about guarding one's back and solitude... how messed up is that ... but at least someone gets it....
if those are favorites of yours black bart, we probly shouldn't have dinner together!
thanks Monique -- have you checked out lulu.com? get those books out there... glad we have so much in common.
ah, the intimacy questions... yes will send a card when I find it Olga...

thank you Natalie... i always *love* it when when my writing affects someone positively -- with the words as well as the "music." thanks so much.
If I have enough #24 I might experience #16. Great list, fascinating. (rated)
"When I wake up, I listen for the hum of the universe and give thanks"

Think I'm gonna try this one.
so, drinking and seeing visions of monks connect for you -- cool roger.

and hyblaean, those few seconds or even minutes can be so helpful and a serene conscious moment before the busyness of the day takes over.
Am in awe of somebody who can do this ---this well. Every point a jumping off point for a wonderful story
I can attest to all the above. I like #3, as we are so, so alike - except when we argue, neh? You know haven't had a good arguement for a long time, sis.
oh my god-dess -- my brother just commented on my blog!!! heheh the basis of whole post!
isn't that the truth -- so many stories that we have just little glimpses of... thanks Chicago guy
You are exceptional. I'd love to walk the labrynth at the cathedral. I have a strong monastic streak, myself.
the labyrinth is not dogmatic, it's not institutional... it just is. there is a labyrinth locator online to find one near you. i do love the one inside the cathedral -- there is something powerful about this circular non-dogmatic path inside the hierarchical structure that appeals to me.
Another amazing list......sorry for my delay in getting here. Rated.
I enjoyed your list...especially this..."I miss my cat Bête who died last year and believe that the sporadic beeping sound my old car emits is her talking to me. I always acknowledge her contact." Connections with cats can be amazing.
Great list, Paula. I was struck by the comment about Dionysius and Delphi...have you been there? I visited in 2004 and fell completely under its spell. Also, sorry to hear about your cat (do you think you'll get another?) and, totally inspired by your briefcase. Happy New Year!
connections with cats *can* be amazing. i'm glad we connected on this one, suzn.
glad you made it and liked my list, cartouche. it can be challenging getting to all the posts we want to get to. thank you.
i have been to delphi, donna, but not at dawn or dusk when i really wanted to be there. and no, i'm not yet ready to get another cat -- this one found me and i'm not done grieving or missing her. i think i like the idea of my red briefcase as much as the briefcase itself.
