What would be like if the US was a socialist country?!

Rate: 0 Flag

Just like when the George W Bush ('W') was a President of the US there were people who did intensely and passionately hate him, now there are also people who intensely and passionately hate Barak Obama (Obama) - the current President of the US.

There are differences though.

At the time of 'W' the people who were vocal in their dislike were often accused of being un-american, and terrorist sympathizers. If they did continue being vocal this may have brought them a visit from FBI, or being put in a 'no fly' list of a database.

The people who dislike Obama on the other hand can say anything freely, without consequences, even though it may not match the reality.

One of the frequent accusations is that the policies of Obama are bringing socialism in the US.

As one being born in a former socialist country I did grow up and experience socialism first hand - personally.
I can say that I am certain the US is still a democracy and not a socialist country.

But, what would be like if we imagine for a moment that the US was actually a socialist country?!

In a socialist country if I happen to speak with a person who dislikes the current administration I will let it slide.
Many other people will respect and let a person express their opinion too.

But eventually there will be someone to report to the 'authorities' that such and such person is vocal about disliking the President.
'State security' police will come and arrest this person.

After interrogation, the person will be labeled 'dissident' and sent to a labor camp to perform 'rectifying work', in the middle of nowhere, in the case of US - maybe in Alaska.

Years and years will pass and when the 'dissident' is finally released from the labor camp they will witness the same President - still in power.

A strange thing will happen - after years of brainwashing in the labor camp, the former 'dissident' will be actually one of the biggest supporters of the President.

I am glad the US is still a democracy, and hope a real socialism never happens in the US.
