Teaching Kids to Love Earth

Rate: 0 Flag

brenden learns to care for earth

Teaching kids to love earth is the best way to guide them onto the right track towards environmental responsibility.

If you start children while they are young, teach them how beautiful the planet and all it's creatures are, you can instill stewardship and caring.

At Planetpals we believe that simple projects involving a basic appreciation of our natural resources and the importance of all living things, is a first step in the that direction.

Planetpals activities for young children are based on this principle. Care for plants and animals, respect water and air, be kind to people around us, it's all part of a whole and happy world.

The process is easy, once children grow to love the planet and what it stands for; they will want to care for it.

For a small child, it can begin as simple as a walk in the park or a swim in the ocean and some important messages on the way.

Take this project, given to primary school students at Hansen Elementary of Canton, MA by teacher Mr. O'Hare. It illustrates one such concept.  Each child was given the topic "rocks" and asked to make a 3d model in a shoe box using real rocks.   In this example Brenden, a Hansen third grader, illustrates his summer memories of the beach on Cape Cod Mass.

The project not only involved recycled materials, but positive associations with a natural landscape. This is one earth science and eco friendly project that really rocks!

So, next time you are looking for a craft project with an eco theme or an earth science module, let this be your guide. Use items such as rocks, shells or sand as the topic. Hand each child a list of materials and set them on their way to a greener world.

Great job Brenden!  It looks good enough to jump right in.
