15 Tips to Make The Fourth of July Greener

Rate: 1 Flag
patriotic holidays
As America celebrates the Fourth of July they will celebrate with red, white, blue and um...GREEN?

No matter where you live, if you are headed for summer fun, think about the planet and being a Planetpal.

Think about what you bring before you bring it, bring it home and dispose of it properly!  Don't leave disposables on the beach or in the parks. A little extra effort means a cleaner world.  There is nothing worse than plastic wrap,  bottles and cans or other trash littering the park, lining the river, or washing up on shore. Be careful not to be careless with the use of land and fires. Remember:  We all need to do our part.

You can be a Panetpal, too!

Here are a 15 SIMPLE TIPS when celebrating to help make any summer party GREEN:

  1. Make sure to bring your own trash bags to the park or beach
  2. Have a recycle and trash plan such as pre-designated bins at any celebration or party. Mark BINS clearly for easy use by using Planetpals FREE Recycle Sign
  3. Use reusable picnic items instead of disposable paper or plastic dishware and utensils
  4. If you are using plastic disposables, encourage people to reuse their cups and plates instead of getting new ones.  (As a new idea, why not give everyone a cup with a unique image or their name on it, and encourage them to re-use it all day and take it home as a souvenir !)
  5. Use paper items instead of plastics and styrofoam which are not biodegrade
  6. Consider cloth napkins or colorful bandanas instead of paper napkins!
  7. Bring your own reusable water bottles
  8. Buy large quantity containers instead of distributing drinks in small bottles and cans...
  9. Be careful what goes into the fire.  Learn before you burn!  Put out all fires and charcoal carefully before you go home, too.
  10. Have an end of party clean up plan in place and encourage the kids to take part in clean up so they can learn for the future
  11. Bring flashlights to evening bonfires and fireworks to help find each other and all your items. Don't leave anything behind.
  12. Don't forget to clean up sparklers and firework debris
  13. Make it a habit to pick up unsightly trash when you are leaving any event even if it is not yours!
  14. Bins full? No place to dispose of things at the event? Take it home and dispose of it properly.
  15. Wear a Planetpals T Shirt , or button to remind everyone to be a PAL!
