Much of the same stuff applies. I'm a married guy--quite married, in fact. We are pushing our 44th year of bliss. In fact I am a grandpa; and wear that title proudly. Over the years I've learned a few things. And tend to share it--tactfully, I hope. I'm a professional, which only means I went to school and got all the degrees. It took years to do it, and has added a little to that experience thing. I'm fortunate to be doing something I love for a living. But, even then, the work place can become boring. However, those times are few and far between. I have two passions in life. I love to write. Sometimes I do that very well, sometimes not so much. But, I've realized you don't have to be good to write; you've just got to really want to. My second passion is my dog. I am a dog person. I'll try not to get mushy and obsessive about it. Pet owners can sometimes do that. I will write about my black Lab, Max; however, I promise to be restrained. I know how those crazy pet people are. Other than that, you will find out more about me from my entries. They likely will be sporadic, because I obviously have a life outside this virtual universe. But, I will try the best I can to make a worthy contribution to the site. Can't ask for more than that.

Now, Did Mitt Romney Really Kill That Guy's Wife?

Rate: 2 Flag

I am disgusted and frustrated at the moment.  Try as I may, I am unable to simply set the political maneuvers of the two political parties to the side and ignore them.  Please understand I do not want to ignore my own personal political positions.  When the time comes I will exercise my right to vote.  I’m just a little fed up with the machinations of the Republican and Democratic parties.  I would gladly include any other party in that group if I thought they had a credible chance to make a difference.  But they don’t, and so I have absolutely no difficulty setting them on the sideline to expend their energy like a wind-up toy.

The two political giants are duking it out for in this presidential election—I mean big time, for the whole world to see.  Had I done my research I could cite the millions upon millions of dollars being poured into the gullet of the media to feed the hungry beast.  Forget about accuracy or discerning the truth.  Forget about presenting political, ethical, and moral positions and beliefs.  And, forget about cognitive and careful debate.  In this slug-fest “Spin” is king—for what you say does not appear to be more valued than how you say it.  Half-truths, innuendoes, embellishment, and downright lies are the tools of the trade.  It is punch and counterpunch with spin being the right hook and sensationalism the left.  What sickens me is that, on the day after Election Day in November, we will have a winner who in my esteem will be tainted by the refuse of the campaigns. He will need of a good long bath to wash the dirt from his image; and, perhaps a tad bit of disinfectant should be added to the bath to sanitize the winner.

What brings me to the point where I find myself placing pen to paper regarding this sorry situation is the latest gaff committed by a Democratic super PAC (Republican super PACs are not immune to gaffs.)  The political ad dramatically presents Mr. Joe Soptic blaming Mitt Romney for killing Joe’s wife, who died of cancer.  Certainly Mr. Soptic is but a pawn of the zealous minions of the super PAC who in their glee at delivering a body blow to their opponent closed their eyes and came out swinging.  Unfortunately, the blow was way below the belt and built on half-truths and circumstances which were totally in control of Mr. Soptic.  However, the spin-masters found enough kernels of opportunity in his unfortunate circumstance to crank the handle and spit out the phlegm of an attack ad.

Now, how dare I say such a thing?  Well I guess the fact that Mr. Soptic’s wife was never insured under his insurance policy held at his job, assuming Mr. Romney really had anything at all to do with him losing his job.  That could be a whole other story.  It appears Mr. Soptic losing his job had no bearing on the insurance coverage for his wife, who was covered by the insurance policy at her job.  She did not lose her coverage until she quit her job years later.  By that time, Mr. Soptic had another job but chose not to cover his wife because it was just too dang expensive.  Notice, he did not consult with Mitt Romney in this decision; it was Mr. Soptic and his wife’s decision on their own.

So, what now?  Will the super PACs of both parties straighten-up and clean up their act--of course not.  Both sides are already spinning this into the next opportunity.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to matter if the garbage spewed by the super PACs is accurate or not.  Once it is cast before the consumer, it is eaten even if it is tainted.  There are enough dolts in our society who apparently don’t mind the taste of garbage, and so we go on, watching the cat-fight that is supposed to be a campaign.  And when it is over we will be expected to forget about the crude way the American people have been treated and get into a straight line for the winner.  Well, I’m gonna have to work on my getting into formation skills.  I’m not sure I want to, anymore.
