6 Word Bio: RUDELY AWOKEN-- MOSTLY OUTSPOKEN-- REMAINING UNBROKEN ****************************************** My life would shock most people. It is a little known fact that there are quite a number of those on the fringes who may not ever see relief. I am that one you never met, in that we are kept separate by way of societal demands that the poor remain silent, biddable, childlike nonentities without a say as to our care or how it's to be provided. ****************************************** I tend to view things as a selfdisicplined person without advantages. If this won't set with some, then I guess they are not ready to remember who we are as one entity, governed by everyone inclusively. I will not cease to point out any diseased thinking I run across here in the USA. ****************************************** I stand in defense of the weakened, the brutally treated, the denied, the ones for whom life's trial can be too much. I stand with my thought, even when my legs are weakened, my stride not strong. ****************************************** Walk with me on this journey, now, wherein we may ask each other: How much is the value of one person affected by what is generally assumed about them? **** See me also at THE POOR WOMAN'S RETROACTIVE DIARY, (go to LINKS below, if you're interested) a commentary on the level of care I was allowed throughout my time seeking help.

New Update: High Park Fire (Disaster Relief, etc.)

Rate: 9 Flag

Today's Numbers

58,056 acres burned; still at 45% containment; 1,700 fire fighters; 17 helicopters (if winds not too severe); fire grew 1,500 acres Sunday, in part due to the increased windiness along the Rocky Mountain region; $12.6 million to fight....thus far.

The Springer Fire, west of Colorado Springs, in the Lake George area, has grown to 970 acres; 400 fire fighting personnel; 2 single engine tankers diverted from the High Park fire; this fire may well have been human caused--purposely.

The following YouTube footage was shot yesterday and posted today by soccer1105:

Notice how windy it was yesterday. Very dismaying. I noticed those winds had shifted direction twice during the day, a challenging factor for those gallant fire fighting teams already hard at work to save what they can of our forested land and homes within it.

There is a general haze most afternoons along the Foothills in our county, except when it's downright smokey, and even much further south, but in Ft Collins, haze is the least of the worries. The density of the smoke, and the drifting ash blown on the winds into people's yards have become worrisome for many residents.

Here is a Red Cross video sharing the special kits that are soon to be distributed to those homeowners whose homes did incur fire damage. I had not heard of this being done before. Truly, this is an amazing community run effort!

This courageous volunteering couple continued to volunteer even after having also been evacuated. It's a short video, a real heart-warmer.

More Ft Collins ( very short) footage of windy conditions with heavy smoke cloud posted by upaboveit26 :

High winds had been in the forecast. They gusted here, but not as heavily as appeared to have happened in the above video.

This next video is worth a chuckle. And it shows how life goes on in our mountain town of Estes park, even as the High Park Fire eats away at a hillside in the not too far distance. The smoke is pretty apparent, towering miles into the sky above the area.

The fire clouds look so ominous above the city dear PW. I'm following this with your posts and still sending my prayers for relief. Your Llama Limbo video was such an unexpected smile bringer at the end, thank you for your humour in the middle of disaster. Life goes on in unexpected ways.
R♥
Fusie: Indeed it would have to! Dear friend, thank you again for your lovely prayers. I'm certain they are aiding us with relief, coming from your heart as they do.
Prayers out to all those involved!! GO AWAY FIRE!!!! HISSSS! SNARL! SCRATCH SCRATCH!!

Ouchie! Burned my paw!! STUPID FIRE!! :D

RATED!
You go get it, Tink!
Bad fire!
:D
I hope you and your family stay safe; wildfires are tough to see. I live in Texas, wildfires were a huge issue here last summer. Keep us updated!
Thanks, pmg! You folks stay safe too!
It's scary the size of the fire and of course that they flare up and run with the wind, if only it would rain hard.

The llama video was funny, I feel a little bad they have to have those haircuts, but appreciate you putting in something bright.
l'Huere: Yes! Thank you! Let's think good thoughts about straight down, lengthier than normal, soaking RAINS to drown out the High Park Fire!
The haircuts, or sheering for spinning their wool, are meant to keep the llamas cool in summer's heat, while allowing their wool to be processed and dyed, woven, knitted, etc.
It's really humane. They'd messily shed half of it anyway, and still become overheated part of the time.
I think they're adorable.
:)
Please please please be careful!
Love the llama!
JD: Thank you. Yes. I will be careful. I pretty have to, don't I?
And the Llamas are just to help lighten the mood a wee bit.
I'm at work right now and can't watch the videos, Pea-Dubb, but will watch tonight. I saw a bit on our news again here last night. : (

Take very good care.
Thank You, Kate, yes, I will!
:(
[r] praying for you PW! Will be back later to view the videos! incredible the immediacy of it all from our safe viewpoints, unlike yours! also that wonderful older couple. crisis really brings out the best character of some people, doesn't it? Or lets it really by seen by others since it was there all the time. thanks for your incredible monitoring of it all! best, libby xxx
Libby: Thanks for stopping by! And Thanks as well for your prayers! I just keep asking people to pray for calm, straight down, soaking rains to hit that area ASAP!
HOW did this happen? How did this come to be in the 4 Hour Feed?
Something's rotten in Denmark/OS.
The last comment I received was 9:35 Pm EST. It's now after midnight on the east coast.

This just isn't right.
What gives?
Terrifying and yet there is raw beauty from the glow....Stay safe. And if you have to run...don't look back.
Ande: You needn't worry. I think I've added here before (it could have gotten lost in the shuffle) that I do not live in the actual area of the fire, but am unduly affected by its toxic smokiness due to my health. But I know others in the area who have mountain homes, friends, relatives, etc. So my concern is to see to it they remain safe and well.
Not only that, it heartens me to know I may sound the alert for those whose lives may never have been touched directly by fire, but who yet could find themselves dealing with its every consequence this summer.
There simply is no excuse for not routinely keeping the high grasses clipped and all brush and dry timber cleared from one's land. So I am trumpeting that this ought to be cared for before it is too late to be done. Also, how it's best to prearrange to have one's pets fostered for one if evacuation orders happen to be given.

There were actually people who refused, point blank, to leave their homes when the High Park fire evacuations were first called.
That someone has died who refused contact with the police is surely tragic. She was probably either ill or afraid her home might get robbed while she was away, and thus didn't leave, and so is now dead.

Ignorance isn't bliss when it comes to fire danger.
Bless you--So glad you stopped by so I could get that off my chest!
